Nice Cover. The mix sounds good. I remember when the tune came out I was just a kid... Living in Wichita KS. LOL As you can imagine it was a big radio hit in my home town.

What a great sounding, authentic cover! The atmosphere is perfect. Great vocal, guitars and the strings sound very good and match the feel of the era very well. The only nit I have is that the drums don't feel real. They are lacking some dynamics that a real player would add. Otherwise, great job!

Dan

Emeraldsoul/Tom - Thanks for the listen.  Not sure about the cricket sound, I have a pad in there but I really can't hear it that well, I think as we advance in age there are certain frequencies that are not as audible.   Will have to re-listen for it.

Never really thought about a competition, to me competition is always against my own previous postings I have done to improve the quality of mixes, playing, etc....The forum is quite invaluable for improvement for those willing to take the criticisms with the compliments and implement good suggestions from other member (like fixing a cricket sound).  I do appreciate your compliment though:)

Mark - Thank You, that is a great compliment considering your own incredible guitar and production skills.  Much appreciated.

LoranP - Thanks for stopping by for a listen and comment.  I think Glen is one of the few artists that had mass cross-over appeal with pop and country fans.    In an interview he said he never really considered himself to be a country artist.    I guess if you look at his history he really did it all from Jazz, Rock, Pop to Country...and all he did very well.  Great talent.

Bat - Thanks, I remember your cover of Highway Star, that was a great rendition....

GaryBrun - Thanks.   No doubt Geno could sing it with a live band.   I gave up the live band thing many years ago (about 25)   Much prefer recording and dabbling at home to the live scene.

This is a terrific song, and you sold me on your version by making it your own song.  Now, if you could do "someone left the cake out in the rain", I'd really be amazed.  Congratulations on taking this challenge and introducing a great song to a new generation.

Very impressive guys.. No crits here. I wondered what happened to Geno - not seen him around here for while. Good to know he's still out there putting the rest of us to shame.

Walt - Appreciate the listen.

Mahavishnu - Thanks for the comment, I may boost the vox up a little as the background builds in volume.  I think the intro is OK but can hear where a slight boost later on may improve the clarity when the strings start popping through.

Tom - Thanks, yes I can imagine this was a big hit in Wichita.  I think the song was originally called Wa****a Lineman (Wa****a County, OK) but Glenn felt that Wichita "sang better." than Wa****a.    Funny stuff.

Dan - Appreciate the comment.   Sorry you aren't a fan of the drums, I tried to keep them pretty mellow and may have compressed some of the dynamics out of them to get them to work...

Lynn - Thanks, appreciate it.   I did try to keep the original instrumentation, while making it a little more modern sounding.  Glad you noticed.    Geno's vocals also gave it a much more contemporary sound.    Appreciate the challenge but I doubt I could top Glen's MacArthur Park performance on the guitar, check this out.  He really hits this hard starting around 5:04.      What an incredible talent....

BEAUTIFUL job on this tune!  Absolutely an epic song originally, you guys have done a fantastic job with it.

Last night,m on the Oscars, they had one of the country singers sing the very last song that Glenn Cambell wrote - and it was about his having Alzheimer's disease and that he would be soon forgetting his wife and kids, but that they would be in the very last thoughts he would be able to remember.  Brought tears to my eyes.

That guy was HUGE.

Thank you for such a fine job on a great tune.
