Digital console VS-700C and the guitar Synthesizer VG-99 are also not working.
The workarounds (editing the .inf files) do not work with the final 8.1.
We have to wait for the final drivers.

... i mean, who the hell updates their daw unless it delivers some essential new feature? surely people don't just buy into the latest/greatest for the sake of having the latest/"greatest" eh?

Not in the middle of a project or with a deadline looming!   That's not software geekiness, just practical business sense.  
 
Otherwise... go for it!  Assuming you've at least Googled to see what you can expect.  That part is more along the lines of common sense.

roland has a care of duty regarding their drivers for a certain period.. I may look into taking legal action for breach of contract, since the interface I bought is not even 5 years old, if this is the case.. there is such a thing as a "legacy period" regardless of if they own cakewalk or not.
 
 

AFAIK, there wasn't any change in the audio system from Windows 7 to 8.0 and 8.1...
 
If this is true, than the only thing in my mind that could be an issue is if Microsoft requires re-certification of drivers due to a new signing certificate for Windows 8/8.1 - which means Microsoft is probably swamped with vendor driver submissions to be tested, certified, and signed...

For those who have Win 8.1 and a PCR-300/-500/-800 keyboard, the Win 8.1 driver was added to the Roland site today. Just installed it and my PCR-800 keyboard and all ACT controller functions are working great in X3.

This morning I woke to find UA101 and UA25 drivers for 8.1 have now been released.

The next question is, do I upgrade?
