I've noticed some strange behavior when i'm using the SQ8L vst in X3 Producer. Ok, it's a really old plugin, but i use it a lot and it worked fine in all the previous versions including X2.
 
1) SQ8L is not visible in all the plugin layouts (custom-made and the default "all plugins" layout) except for the menu shown in the "plugins - instruments" browser tab.
 
2) Still, when I try to drag SQ8L from that menu to the tracks area (that should lead to "insert soft synth options" dialog) nothing happens. But i can drag it onto "track fx" bin. I.e. it behaves more like an fx rather than a synth (no midi in for example), but the "configure as synth" check-box is unchecked and the only menu where it's visible shows it as a synth.
 
3) It's still visible in the plugin manager (and looks like a properly configured synth).
 
4) All the projects with SQ8L made in the previous sonar versions work fine in X3.

I have SQ8L. I don't see those problems. It's on all the Plug-in lists I have and I have no problems with the instrument track loading.
 
My version is v0.91 beta, probably very old (2008?).
 
Maybe you should reset the plug-ins and do a full scan again?

Mine is 0.91b too and the reset / scan doesn't help. Are you using a 64-bit or a 32-bit sonar version?
