I'm not that familiar with Tom Waits, although I am familiar with his vocal style having heard some of his stuff over the years.
 
This is a fitting cover of a great song by him (I've just listened to the original). And simply recorded... I like this.

Suicide music lol!! Not a TW fan...prefer Leonard Cohen but I appreciate the vocal and your ability to sing.  I like the grit too (the fan noise) I've discovered that noise is the key to getting really cool mixes IMHO...my mixes and masters tend to have "tape hiss" or even crunch introduced into the mix via the Waves H-Comp.  Robert Fripp (King Crimson) calls this Audio Verite or warts and all...listen to King Crimson's Island and you will know what I mean.

Not me singing or playing, it's my client. I think what you're attributing to fan noise is actually the keys on the digital piano, we did this live in one take and there are a couple of keys that "clack" a little that the vocal mic picked up. Regardless, not afraid of the occasional wart.  😁
