One critical thing to note...

"Per the End User License Agreement"

I could be wrong here but im pretty sure "the End" has already arrived.

I should have been nervous when Gibson bought Cakewalk. When I bought my 335 in 2013 it took 8 months and 4 guitars before one from the factory worked.

I had a similar experience with a Les Paul I ordered.
The frets ends were literally popping through the white neck binding. For a moment I thought it was actually a Chibson. I sent it back and the next one I received was a better but needed a major set up. My guy who does my guitars here in Boston said he has seen a downward reduction in quality in the past few years.
This was back in 2014. so im sure it has got worse.

Exactly!
I have a huge respect for the law when the law gives me reason to respect it. I'm a Canadian for cripes sakes, we have to be the most law abiding culture there ever was.
I put my snowtires on in October even though it won't be snowing for a month yet. That's our law.
SO I make up a new law for Sonar and I say you can put it on every computer in you house and barn. AS LONG AS YOU ARE THE ONLY USER!
I draw the line at giving Sonar away free to other people and certainly this will happen big time if they pull down the servers and hand out a magic key. I think it might be the delay in doing this. Somebody will probably make a key gen that works with the offline activation. I see that as not being difficult for a tech geek. Then we have to question our morals when the day comes that we would need to resort to a key gen because Cakewalk is long gone as a company and Gibson too.
We are told in the FAQ that they plan on being around until the spring so I am optimistic we will get our solution. Then the only roadblock would be w!) updates which there are many solutions for.

Timely question, I was just logging on to ask - - 'cept I am getting a laptop to ultimately supplant my desktop as I downsize my life.

I'd say you could pretty much go whooppee and install it on as many as you like now! Cakewalk have always been very fair and liberal in allowing multiple installs. I have had registered installations on 3-4 computers for the past 20 years with zero issues. The exception, as others have mentioned, is some bonus content like melodyne.

I suspect Cakewalks care factor at this point is running pretty low:)

Why is this even a discussion? Well I know why...
When I got  slat in 2015 it said NOTHING about how many systems it could be on!
and there is NOTHING that prevents ANY user from using their CC to install splat on a limited number of computers!

Frankly many had a foundation of their studio's based on Cakewalk's DAWs...
And all this forum is now, is a BAD JOKE and a slap in the face to the Cakewalk users!
Yet here WE all are, and we have heard everything you could possibly ask about Cakewalk products!
AND WE KEEP ASKING FOR THE PUNCH LINE! OVER AND OVER and it's still the same!
WE ALL GOT F_-_-_ed! by CAKEWALK & GIBSON! We owe them NO respect! WE owe them NO loyalty!
WE owe them nothing! They stole our cash with lies~! They fired all the best DAW builders on this earth!
What's left?
Duh... how many copies can I install of my worthless "unsupported" DAW? REALLY? is this your life!?
"IMO"

Don't look up here "the joke's in your hands" fools, the lot!

Sorry!

That's because you never stopped to read the ULA (User License Agreement).
You just clicked and clicked.....clicked.....clicked a check box.....clicked install with out reading it.
Its right before the installation of Sonar.

The pointless thing about the question is, why even ask, just do it. That's what I've always done. It will either work or it won't work. I don't need anyones permision.

If someone does eventually purchase the IP to SONAR and the rest of the Cakewalk products, the EULA will still apply, at least to the extent that the new owner *could* pursue legal action. They probably won't, though.

I plan to have two installs. One on the new workstation I just put together to actually use, and once the copy on my desktop is decommissioned I'll keep a copy on my laptop as a portable instance. I don't plan to activate the third party plug-ins on the laptop - it'll just be for capturing audio or MIDI in places taking my workstation isn't possible (actually, I will probably only use the laptop to capture MIDI - I have digital recorders for the audio). I will also continue to only use it on one of the machines at any one time.

This is what is allowed by the End User License Agreement and I'm good with that. Yes, screw Gibson and the wooden pony they rode in on, but I'm keeping it legal.

Let me say this 1st, MOST everything I've said in this forum over the last few years was said because I don't like to be ripped off and I hate it more when others get ripped off! I am not a "corporate friendly" person! lol
But I came to truly respect the Bakers and many on this forum!!
You as well chuckebaby!
I know you want to be right about this, I know you wish you where right. But you're not. lol AND I do read agreements. paranoid! ;) I've even had to ask about things I've read in it. I'm sure you can find that here if you look hard enough. I've referenced many time to how many computers I use... I've installed it on many computers using the CC with out issue. And if Cakewalk wanted to limit installation they would have when they built the CC from the ground up!
The only time it "may have said "two systems" was possibly reference above this as (4 /8/16) I did read something in this forum about it but that went away. and considering I was already install and running I would not "click" "click" read... but I remember I did look into it at the time! and I would have bought another copy of Splat it it would have been an issue!
Now I can't even find a user agreement... it should be listed in the "about area"... or in the help Docs. it's not.
Cakewalk as far as I can remember "always" had an open end computer installation policies. with a used on "only one system" at a time.

As to that... I don't recall where at the moment but I have seen when and where I have Splat installed and on how many systems...
I only have it on... _ systems... Regardless, NO Lifetime agreement is in the Same agreement as how many installs. Cakewalk broke the agreement! so there is no agreement! and YET... Cakewalk Who?    lol

peace my friend... truly!  As we scatter to the wind!
