• SONAR
  • Give all keystrokes to plug-in not working

This one is driving me nuts.

When I try to type in a plug-in - in this case Jamstix3 and I want to type an "I" or a "V" into the song structure wizard - Sonar X2 would just hijack all keystrokes. Typing an I just cause Sonar inspector in the background to open or close instead of Jamstix reacting. I have the send keystrokes to plug-in enabled.

I have read on the forum that a workaround is to use notepad and then copy and paste.

/rant warniing/ This works, but let's be honest. If true, that is not good. This alledged bug seems to be around since 2 years back. If such allegaton is true, it is unacceptable. Does Cake not care about such things? Are we really talking about just poor programming skills? Or is it just poor product care? Besides, why would this be a problem for only such a few number of people? Are most people happy with the workarounds, or are the majority of people not interested in the need to type something into a plugin every once in a while?

Is this an X2-specific phenomenon? I've not seen it in 8.5, although you allude to this being a 2-year-old problem.

(The converse problem, though, I have seen: plugins that don't pass keystrokes back to the host. Ozone 3 used to drive me nuts, having to set focus back to SONAR every time I wanted to hit the spacebar for playback. But that's an issue with the plugin, not with SONAR.)

I just tried this if I click on "give all keystrokes to plugin" it turns blue and "I" does not open the inspector. If I click on "give all keystrokes to plugin" again and turn it off then "I" opens the inspector. I know this no help but strange that so many have varying results.

edit... I used rapture

happens in x1 as well. click give all keystrokes to plugin then double-click a parameter setting in rapture and type 2 and sometimes you'll get screenset 2. lol.

Tried this as well in X1 and X2 no luck works as intended here. Just so strange I can't reproduce your results. Maybe cakewalk will look into this.

Same thing happens with Amplitube3, give all keystrokes  doesn't do anything.

Copy paste from notepad doesn't work either in A3 so I'm out of luck there.

I just create a bunch of blank aptly named presets in my vsthost where the keyboard does work, then load an unused one in Sonar, tweak and save.

hell in x1 the button was missing until the last update. have not had to use it since upgrading to x2. don't know how they would overlook a function such as this.

Did anyone ever get any traction with this one ?

Seems to still be an issue in X3 too.  Interestingly it seems some keystrokes stop working with X3 when you select give all keystrokes to plug in (like spacebar and w) but other keys like I and V and B still operate on X3 not on Jamstix.

Kind of annoying still.
