Thanks for the warning. On the other hand, how is 8.1 performing in general apart from Sonar? Some clear improvements?

Seems nuts that an incremental update would make 8.0 drivers obsolete.  Crazy.  The upgrade should pop up a warning about this, because I bet most people would be surprised to find that some Windows 8.0 drivers don't work in Windows 8.1

Yikes... That is nuts! I actually nixed upgrading to Win8 because of the disclaimer "It is not possible to back out of Win8, a full install of the previous version is required."

So... 8.1 is not winning any kudos now either :(

A golden rule is to check compatibility of your drivers for any essential hardware before upgrading an operating system.

There are companies already offering Win 8 & 8.1 compatible drivers eg RME.

Yes, the upgrade itself had quite a few improvements on the interface of win8 pro, had start screen improvements, could see the applications easier, seemed to run smoother, boot up quicker, shut down quicker, I liked the general feel of the win 8.1 pro upgrade. it's just that the ua-25ex usb audio capture by Roland was DEAD in the water and after 2.5 days of fiddlin' and googlin'  it to death  ,I had to bail and go back to win 8.0 pro. Hope this helps!

Its not an upgrade yet. Its a preview and I think it lacks a lot of driver support. At least I hope so. Windows 8.1 wont be released until the 17th.

   Hello     Richard,
We are sorry     to hear that you are having trouble. We have sent a request for Windows 8.1     drivers to our corporate Roland/ BOSS headquarters in Japan. At this time,     they have not informed us regarding when they plan to release updated     drivers. Roland engineers will most likely be releasing this after the     official release date of W8.1 from Microsoft.
However, we     will be happy to email you directly if Windows 8.1 drivers are released     from Roland Japan and posted on our website.
We hope this     helps. Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance. Have a     great day.
   Sincerely,
    Roland Product Support

I recently     installed Win8.1 beta and my Roland UA-25EX would not work at all. No     driver out there would let the unit power up. I had to re-install Win 8.     Microsoft is about to release Win 8.1 Upgrade. Will you have Win 8.1     Drivers for the UA-25 EX available by the 10/18/2013 release date for Win     8.1 ? Thank You Rick Langs

Actually   the suck continues. I ended up reinstalling windows 8 (you can't roll back   the Preview so easily) and have, after a period of relative calm and   cooperation now put the 8.1 PRO download on thinking surely Roland will have   supported the product by now and released a working driver,.... and guess   what? Same bug!!!!!!.

I think I   will just have to ditch the UA25EX if they won't even comment other than   saying 'iyt should work". And I see the same issue on the Cakewalk   forums so it's not a rarity. Bad Naughty Roland!

It took   Roland 7 days last year to get their drivers signed for Windows 8, even   though they did work for the Previews.  We're only 3 days after the   upgrade.

This year   Roland are in the midst of selling off Cakewalk to Gibson, who were the   branded division for the hardware, although I doubt Cakewalk did much driver   development.

Give them a   shot. In the meantime you can always use the built in drivers or the S/DIF   audio.
