I will also add my vote for the B4 virtual Hammond organ.. I am a hammond organ player, and I must say the B4 sounds terrific in the mix... however if you're looking for a cheaper solution, or looking for sounds that you can use on different sampling syths, I have the Sweetwater B3 CD (I forget the name of it off hand)... The B3 sounds are quite good, sampled with various different drawbar configurations, and with/withoug Chorus/Vibrato/Percussion.. I was going to put the CD on ebay shortly, but you can have it for $20, it's in perfect condition... just contact me off list. Craig

Do a google for "pedalsteel.exe"--it's a soundfont that's out there floating around.

For pedal steel loops, get "Nashville Wire"...

For real pedal steel, contact David Spires, who frequents this forum under the moniker "the doghouse." He is one of best in Nashville.

For less expense (version 3.0 is donation-ware), you might try Organized Trio. Pick up Mr. Ray, too, while you're there.

I'm gonna weigh in for OrganizedTrio, also - as a freebie (or donationee?) it's amazing. That said - if ya got a budget, B4 is definately tops. I carted around a Hammond for years, and B4 is so on it you can get splinters from the case!

Take note, tho - neither of the above are samples, they are real time emulators of the real thing. I've never seen (heard) a sampled B that cuts it for me - it's just too expressive an instrument to reduce to a single recording. I'd say the same for pedal steel - but I honestly haven't checked much out in that area lately.... If ya go for sampled B, I hope you have a foot-controllable tube preamp lying around - and a real leslie...

I just updated my B4 to version 1.15 and the need to periodically reinsert the CD for authorization has been eliminated. What a relief.
