  • USB number pad controller crashing X3

The task : As I am using the same PC to display charts, X3 needs to run in the background, no probs with that as after you press play it starts a project and then I can flick to the chart app.

However as I will have the chart app as the "focus" app on the laptop, I thought if I set up several projects in a Playlist, and then assign say, the 0, on the external USB number pad to control start/stop I could do this and have X3 happily playing along in the background...

Wrong! Every time I press the 0 key on the USB device X3 crashes  - as in re-boot X3 (and on occasion the PC!) . Has anyone else experienced this behaviour?

And before they ask I allowed the X3 fault reporter to generate and send a report, twice. However it has been several days and I have not heard, and as X3c is coming out and they are probs busy, I thought I would ask here.

Cheers

Anything that can crash your whole system is going to be a hardware driver issue. You'll need to look at the crashdump yourself, and determine what the faulting module is - most likely your audio interface driver is not playing nice with the keybpad driver. What interface and driver mode is it, anyway? You might try moving one or the other to a different port if the audio interface is also USB.

I assume this is  laptop that doesn't have its own dedicated numkey pad, but has numkey mode that can convert QWERTY keys to numkey function. Is that right? What if you try enabling that and using the 0 key from that pad? If that doesn't crash anything, then you know there's an issue with the USB numkey pad.

thx BF - I can't do the num 0 swap as you suggest as I am using the laptop in tablet mode which is why I need the USB number pad.

I tried assigning the stop start to a note event and then using my Korg NanoPad II (with the same note assigned to a pad) but it just doesn't work, at least the Korg Nano doesn't crash X3

btw, the USB number pad works with everything else, and works on every USB port....I will keep hunting  - still nothing from CW.

Cheers

I saw one of the bakers mention that email support is a little snowed under with all the work going into X3 and that it is better to call them.  I would give them a call, quoting your CWBRN number.

Thx but it is an expensive call - I am in Australia!

I meant just as a troubleshooting step to eliminate the USB numkey pad from the equation.
