Hi All,

I've noticed there are some iphone/ipad apps that can work as a control surface on a DAW, some mention cakewalk support.  Does anyone have any recommendations, what app works best with cakewalk sonar x3?

Thanks in advance
Jim

Hey JimmyBoy!  I'm a little disappointed that no one has chimed in here. I was able to get AC-7Core to work (with limited success) with X2 but I haven't yet tried it in X3.  Maybe no one has had the time to play with this stuff yet?  Best!

I use V-Control Pro on iPad (not entirely sure if it does iPhone too) but it's pricey and may be overkill for your situation.
EDIT
The free version already has a lot of functionality though, I suggest giving it a go.

Hi Dave & sanderxpander,

Thanks for the responses,...  I'm trying the edit: AC-7 core mini for iPhone, looks great but can't get it to work.  I downloaded and installed the rtpMIDI tool, configured it by following the instructions from the rtpMIDI website.  I've no idea what tcp port needed to be entered for the iPhone in the rtpMIDI config - I tried the suggested port but iPhone doesn't appear to connect...

PC Running Windows 8.1 with X3b Studio version, iPhone 4s is also configured on the same wireless network.. Bonjour service is running too, (I thought this service should make things easier for network service discovery.. maybe I need some other version, this was installed with iTunes)..

any suggestions?

Ok I got it to work,..

I started the rtpMIDI tool first on Windows Notebook, then on iPhone started the AC-7 core Mini app.  I noticed then in the rtpMIDI tool my iPhone appeared in the list, (seems Apple Bonjour found the service for me).  I clicked the connect option in the app. It moved the listing to the connected.

Started up Sonar and jit "P" configured the control surface to use Mackie Control and in the ports the host name configured in the rtpMIDI was already selected in the I/o ports.

Saved and tried it out... It still wasn't working.  Found someone mentioned had to hit reset in the iPhone app. Tried this and still didn;t work... Hmm frustrating time...

Now I remembered I had a similar problem with my Samson Graphite control surface, that is after I configured the Control Surface had to save and then exit from Sonar and start sonar up again.  I quit out and restarted sonar and all works!!!

Now I can control my DAW from my iPhone - woohoo...

Sometimes you have to be a little patient with AC7. Once all the services are running it may take a minute before the reset button responds. One the connection is made its been pretty reliable for me.

If you want metering in AC7 but are not seeing meter levels you may have to configure the Mackie control surface in Sonar to show metering. It's always been off by default for me.
