I've got a very tiny buzz coming from my computer every time I open up either Sonar or Adobe Audition....It's very tiny barely audible but it's there. The buzz goes away when I close the programs. I tried going into my bios and disabled the onboard audio card, but it was still there. I'm using a M-Audio Fast Track audio interface, but I don't think it's that, because the computer is dead quiet when the DAW programs are closed.

The tiny buzz does NOT get recorded into my mixes as my cd's come out with perfect sound quality and sound great on other systems.....it's just thru my computer. It's not my power amp or any input, as the buzz is only there when I open the programs. Like I said, it's barely audible but it's there and it annoys me...any suggestions ??

I'm running Windows 7-64 Bit on a Dell i3 second generation computer. Windows Media Player does NOT buzz while open.

Do you perhaps have inputs turned up on your audio interface?  I know my guitar cord makes noise since I leave the input gain set even when the guitar isn't plugged in, so when I open a project that has a guitar track pointing to that input it makes some noise.

Nope that's not it.. I tried lowering the volume inputs to zero and still got the buzzing...I tried replacing the cables from the interface to the amp, and still got the tiny buzz.
 
What's really odd is that when I plug my headphones into the Fast Track, I hear no buzz thru the headphones...If the output of the Fast Track is messed up, then why does it only happen when the Sonar or Audition programs are open ?? Some sort of USB grounding problem ??

Okay it was something to do with the USB output to the Fast Track. I tried using my onboard sound card and the buzz went away in both X3 and Audition. Yay !! I can still use the Fast Track for Input into the computer, but I can't use the output to my studio monitors. I don't think it's a problem with the Fast Track, but some sort of glitch with the USB audio output inside the computer.

After doing a lot of digging I was able to find a driver update on Avid's website for the Fast Track. After I installed it  I did another test and the buzzing sound was 75% eliminated but still there, but just barely. So I went back to the onboard sound card which eliminates the buzz completely.

Are you using a wireless mouse? I get a high pitched buzzing sound from that occasionally.
Not sure what I did to fix it right now. If so, I'll research it over the weekend when I'm around the DAW.

No cables for the wireless mouse or kyb.
The receiver for these wireless devises is a cable from the cpu and a  transmitter 'thingie' terminating at the other end or the cable.
Of course power, printer, audio interface, cpu speaker system (not for daw playback, only cpu), DSL etc are plugged into cpu as expected.

No wireless mouse or printer, or anything...It must be a driver problem with the Fast Track, as once I installed the most recent driver, 75% of the noise went away. It might be some sort of Windows 7 problem too. It's definitely not a Sonar problem as Audition does the same thing.
 
I just noticed it now because I'm doing a lot of critical recording and really giving everything a thorough workout. My volume levels are very low so the little buzz really stood out and annoyed the heck out of me....but now that I'm using the onboard soundcard, there's no buzzing noise.
 
I can still use the Fast Track as an input device, as the input to the computer is extremely quiet and sounds great.

Well coming back at it with fresh ears...I decided to give another listen to Fast Track to see how bad the buzz is now with the updated driver... It's barely noticeable now, So I'm going to stick with the Fast Track as an output device now, because I can monitor my guitar input thru my studio speakers while recording, and I have use of the headphone jack and volume controls for my studio monitors right at my finger tips.
 
So the bottom line is yes, the updated driver fixed the problem good enough.
