take control . . . they can't force it on you, and you can 'defer' it for as long as you want. i shut down the updates on all my pc's at 1511 or whatever it was, the one before the original anniversary update, and it only takes a couple of mouse clicks, no registry hacking or other voodoo involved, and it works on home versions as well as pro etc.

right click start button - control panel - administrative tools - services - scroll down to windows update - right click and disable, you will not hear from windows update again until if and when you choose.

are you 100% sure this still works like it did in win7 and 8? I may be losing my mind but I believe I had this disabled on one of my machines to find I enabled later when connecting the LAN cable again ... (and why all the fuss about the updates if all you need to do is shut down a service?)

It's covered in this article:

#1607 on all machines... no issues with DAWs, just the office PC took me 2 1/2 days to jump thru the hoop

on the DAWS I had to do what's been documented in this forum before i.e. reinstall the legacy drivers (using driver signing off) and reactivate AD2

apart from that win10 swapped the names for my 2 identical MIDI interfaces, so I had to reassign the friendly names in Sonar to reflect this ...

I somehow accepted the update last week. I figured I'd try it for a bit. I've found Ableton Live and UAD to appear less stable and I've crashed Live more now than I used to. I actually started the rollback on my machine this morning before I left for work.

I really don't know if it's the update or something else, but they only give you 10 days to do the rollback so I figured I'd take the safe route and go back...

PS: Stylus RMX needed to be re-authorized after the update, and it lost one of the sample selections in it in a project. Was glad I had a backup...

Using Win10 on music pc. I disable the wi-fi adapter when I am not authorizing something. Win10 keeps telling me that I need to update my Win Defender to the latest version. So 1607 hasn't been installed yet. In fact, I don't know last time it did up date. I think the day I installed it, I let it update all it wanted. Then pulled the plug on wi-fi.

I am also of the opinion that you don't need to keep Windows "up to the minute" updated to run a DAW. With Win XP - 7, I only updated when a service pack came out. With win10 I am open to see what comes out.

welp, the rollback was a pain in the arse and I ended up having to clean off all UAD stuff and re-install.

This morning I turn on my PC only to find that Windows decided to install the Anniversary edition AGAIN!.

Apparently, resistance IS futile.

Actually there is one thing you can do.  There is a Microsoft utility called "wushowhide" that you can run.  It was created for exactly this situation, such as a bad driver update, but can be used to hide any updates that you don't want.

Just update the laptop too no known issues encountered. It took a little longer than the DAW, I suspect because the DAW has a SSD drive.

Understood.  But realize that you are only 3 feet from the finish line.  You can make it that far in slippers!
