Hi There,

I finally received Sonar X2 and I have a question about adjusting  the volume of individual  clips. In Samplitude you can split a piece of audio and then pull down the volume using what they call an object volume handle. Where the audio is split it is automatically cross faded as well. The waveform for that clip also scales to the volume setting. From my research it  seem that in Sonar X2 clip volume adjustment can only be done using gain automation. Am  I right in thinking this is the only way to adjust clip volume in this way? I did a search on the forum and there was talk about something called an "Edit Filter". I can't seem to find it though. Any advice would be appreciated.

You are correct, you can. On the track header, there's a small drop down meny thingy called Edit Filter. From there you can select all envelopes that you are able to have in your tracks and from there you choose Clip Gain. Each clip get it's own gain envelope and you can adjust until you're happy

This video would probably also answer some of your questions:

Would be nice if the waveform was scaled to the gain amount like in Samplitude.

Having the damdest time figuring out how to change the volume or gain of an individual clip in Sonar X2.  Reviewed the comments in this discussion string, but I do not see the clip "gain" envelope in the clip edit filter drop down?

To be more specific I have multiple clips in two different lanes within the same track.  I want to fade in the second clip in lane 2 halfway through while the first clip in lane 1 plays with continuous volume.

Any ideas?

Over the track view clip pane press "T" or click the middle mouse button. This will bring up the HUD with the edit filter toward the right of it. As ProjectM has already said there is also a widget in the Track View header area but you need to make sure the widget manager is set to display it there.

From the edit filter select clip gain. You'll now be able to adjust clip gain using the envelope. Click drag on it to create and adjust nodes if you don't want a straight adjustment.

To create a fade, click drag toward the top right or left corner of a clip where you'll see a red line appear and the cursor change to the fade cursor to indicate that click dragging will create a fade. Fade type can be adjusted using the TV---->Options---->Crossfade type menu choices.

And finally I have a video on my youtube page explaining the edit filter. There are others there you  may find helpful and I also author more detailed videos that you can buy from either SWA or the Cakewalk store

Should be in the lane's Edit Filter drop down. Clip Automation > Gain. Can't think offhand what would cause it not to be available, unless you're talking about MIDI clips, in which case the Velocity [Offset] envelope is the rough equivalent of audio gain.

For an audio clip, in addition to the above methods you can also Ctrl+Drag downward on the upper portion of the clip - that will expose the clip gain envelope and keep it on the cursor for placement.

Agree. I think it makes sense to show changes that are happening at the input gain point, so it could work like the clip fades do.

Thanks for the brainwaves peeps.  Velocity seems to be the only option to apply volume automation to a single clip - in my X2 configuration that is.   So props to brundlefly (great handle BTW) and thanks to all.
