Thanks for the brainwaves peeps. Velocity seems to be the only option to apply volume automation to a single clip - in my X2 configuration that is. So props to brundlefly (great handle BTW) and thanks to all.
This is because you're looking at a
Midi clip, not an
Audio track.
In order to do what you want and adjust volume at the CLIP level, you'll first have to bounce the midi to audio, or freeze the synth.
Then you can select the audio clip and access clip gain from there.
Alternatively you can forget all about CLip Gain and simply apply a TRACK envelope. You do not need to bounce or freeze the synth in order to do this
