Actually, thinking about it, I think it might (in my case) have something to do with doing a select all, and then modifying the selection length using the "from now - to now" functions. I dunno, I should check this properly before waffling on about it.

I'm not sure its "by design" but I get a region selected using Ctrl+A rather than the whole project length if I've previously had a region selected. I usually Ctrl+Shift+A and then Ctrl+A which seems to fix any region issue. It's been like that so long that it's automatic and I've never even really thought of it as a bug, just the way it works - although it could be I guess.
 
I definitely don't have issues with the edit filter though. If I ctrl +A it includes all clips regardless of track edit filter settings.

Thanks karl. Btw i think that topmost item you are referring to isn't a clip but a data indicator block that gets put in a TV folder.

Ah...... thanks. that would explain it, and goes to show how hard it is to see what's going on from a screenshot.
