Speaking of track icons ... is it possible to opt not to use them and have the track collapsed to the size that they are in 4.0?

tia

You know, when I first heard about the track icons, I thought "Oh great... let's all try to look Playschool like GarageBand!"

Now I find them indispensable...

YMMV.

Corey

Hey Corey,

Now with (about a 4MB) video:

Wacky Icon Behavior

This pretty much illustrates my original issue, probably better than I could describe. As you can see from the video, it even happens with the icons that Cakewalk supplies (in addition to some of my own).

If anyone can shed any light... well, I'm all ears!

That is truly wierd. I am totally stumped. How about after you close SONAR does the template do the same thing? I've never used the same template three times in a row so maybe that's why I've never seen it.

It's midnight and I just had to fire up the DAW and check this out. I followed your recipe several times and could not get it to reproduce that effect.

What screen resolution are you using? What color quality? I want to set my computer the same and see if I can get the same results.

Thanks for trying it out. I did extensive testing last night as well, and not only does it exhibit that behavior when inserting the "same" template, it does it whenever you insert ANY track template that has custom icons (i.e it doesn't have to be multiples of the same template).

It also does it with ANY/EVERY custom icon, except for the automatic defaults -- including just the plain colored squares. As a matter of fact, if I Load an icon that's the VERY same image as the default icon from the Default directory, it will do the same thing.

I'm baffled.

So I started looking into the display thing. Typically I run 1280x1024 on dual monitors (Viewsonic VX924 and VX910, video card is a Matrox Millenium G550), but I tried the range of other resolutions as well. Thought I had a breakthrough when I switched from 32-bit color to 16, as it seemed to fix it... turns out it was a fluke, and that's the most frustrating issue with the problem: every so often, it'll work as it should. Well, for 5 or 6 tracks, then it'll start doing the wacky resizing thing again.

I can't help but think there's some control/configuration file somewhere that got obliterated when I reorganized my directories -- something that tells Cakewalk how to keep the icons under control. Since you can't seem to replicate, and no one else appears to be having a similar problem, it seems clear that this issue is specific to my system.

As always thanks for your help. Any other direction you can point me toward is appreciated!

I saw this very same thing happen in another program. I was trying to draw something in Windows paint when I got to a point where I needed more tools to complete the drawing. I imported the bmp drawing into Ulead Photoimpact. I cropped the pic and added a bit of text. When I merged the text into the drawing, I sat and watched as the drawing started to shrink. It's now shrinking as much as it's somehow causing Ulead to display it in 1/16 size. I can't get it to stop behaving this way. It's strange. Just wanted to let you know that it might not be your hardware settngs.

Just a hunch...

Tagpass, do you have a Microsoft keyboard with the software that allows you to scale text and graphics by using a zoom control on the keyboard? I have one and it is scaling the drawings in my photo editor. I just happened to have reset the scale a while ago and didn't change it back. I can change the size of this drawing by bumping the zoom up and down.

Do you have any other software running that can zoom text for you when you viewing it?

I will check into this. I'm not aware of anything else running EXCEPT -- there is the possibility that something in my ShuttlePro setup could be the culprit (?).

By the way, I was wrong in my previous posts -- the icons are resizing regardless of the track templates. I opened one of my current projects, and the icons I had placed were all screwy.

The only other thing I can think of is that there's a problem in one of the .ini files. There was some useful info in the online help about entries in WINCAKE for large and small icon default sizes (by the way, that's where the info is about the transparency and the upper left pixel thing you mentioned). I checked my files and could not find these entries, so perhaps adding it will fix it (if it's not the ShuttlePro thing).

I don't know... other than that I'm all out of ideas.

I'll let you know what I find out.

Well... unfortunately, no dice on solving this issue.

If there's some application that's interfering, I don't know what it might be. Tried disabling the ShuttlePro, scoured through various background services, added some text to Cakewalk.ini -- still the problem persists.

I suppose all I can do at this point is wait for SONAR 6 and see if it doesn't do it anymore.
