I've got a studio PC running an i7 3930k CPU on Win 7 Pro X64. Sonar X2a is the only software installed so far.

Should I take this opportunity to do a clean install of Win 8 pro (already have the license) then do the Sonar X3b update?
Or just do the X3b update on the current Win 7 system without worrying about Win 8.

My thinking is that I have 3 Win 8 Pro licenses so will get 8.1 as a free update. Eventually 7 will be gone anyway (though not for a long time). As for Win 7, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I too have an 8.0 licence.

Had really bad experience with W8 at the beginning so went back to W7.

I'm going to wait until 8.1 comes out, download it and think heavily about installing it, check out driver availability first -:)))

Cheers,
Jerry

Theres no driver issues as ive got a pair of RME FF800s.

Maybe i should set up a seperate hardrive and do a dual boot.

Just a bump for some more feedback

I've tried to find an answer to the following but no success.
I have 3 x Win 8 Pro licenses but haven't installed any yet. I'm guessing that I cant access the FREE Win 8.1 download until I have Win 8 installed???

I personally would install Win 8.1 first then X3. You should be fine either way. I just think it's a good idea to have your OS in place prior to installing important software.

If you have enough cash to buy an extra drive, I would do that and dual boot. That way you can ease into Win8 if you need to. That's the way I did it when 8 first came out, and I was surprised that I really just ended up staying in Win8 all the time right off the bat. Once you have Win8 installed, you click on the Store tile in the Metro UI and the 8.1 update tile is right there. Downloads can be pretty slow for 8.1 at this point, but IMO it's worth it. Lots of small enhancements that make life better, and you can boot right into the desktop now. X3b is running great on my ancient machine.
