I have this on the reference manual of my Yamaha 01v96i
"You can remotely control DAW software that supports the
Pro Tools protocol."
Is Sonar a DAW software that supports the Pro Tools protocol?
If yes what does it mean?
Sorry for this silly question but I`m trying to connect this yamaha as a basic control surface but I had no luck so far.
It all looks so simple on the manual, but there are to many parameters ,on both Sonar and specially the Yamaha and probably I`m missing one of them out or wrong.
Any help thanks and Peace

Have you seen this thread? http://forum.cakewalk.com...01V-desk-m2486281.aspx
Maybe some help at the yahoo group referred to there?

Yes thanks I went in a lot of that but i think 01v96i is a much improved version of the 01v and some settings are different .I`m lost for now,but I`ll be back.

Might be worthwhile to PM Jeff Evans who was active in the earlier thread I linked to. I realize Jeff had the earlier version of the 01v96, and is now less active with SONAR than he once was (he is now a Studio 1 user). But he may have some insight into how to get the 01v96i to work as a control surface in SONAR - he's a very sharp guy and is generally eager to help where he can.
Best of luck.

Hello,

I do not believe that Sonar is compatible with the Eucon and the HUI midi mapping protocols used in Protools. .  Sonar uses "general" midi maping topologies and does support "midi learn". Each of these (Eucon, HUI, General Midi, Midi Learn are protocols/topologies used to interpret and transmit/control midi information. It is far more complicated than my oversimplification but I am hoping that this tranlates ok..  IHTH.....

No it doesn't - And unfortunately the Yamaha doesn't use the more universal MCU format (Mackie). I believe your only option would be to try to go the ACT route which was why I suggested the earlier thread and the approach discussed there -

Thanks to everybody for the help this is a great forum has been like this for the last 12 years.Though I`m normally in the studio working I always know that I have help a click away.
Well I made some small progress.
1. Transport working ok through MMC
2. With the generic surface I`m made some progress like Faders and mute but one way (Yamaha to Sonar)
3. What I would like to do is just have Faders,Mute,Solo and Track Arming both ways Sonar to Yamaha and Yamaha to Sonar.Thats all the control I need.
 Thanks  Peace
