Just got a new computer with windows 7 and sonar 8 loaded.  My Faderport will not work or be recognized.  What to do?

It doesn't appear that Presonus has a Windows 7 driver for the Faderport, so you can try the latest drivers that are available or you will have to wait until they release a driver.

I sorta figured this out, but the faderport is still not 100% working... after downloading and installing the latest drivers, copy faderport.dll from the presonus directory to the cakewalk shared surfaces directory. Then you have to register the dll with windows using regsvr32 from the command prompt. It is now recognized by Sonar, but only the fader and pan knob work; no transport functions.

hmmm

The routine that jlightfoot worked perfectly for me. I copied the 64-bit DLL to the Shared Surfaces under the 64-bit Program Files, and the 32-bit to the x86 Sonar. I registered them both and the Faderport is working perfectly in both Sonar 32 and 64-bit.

Roger, sorry to bother you with this:  Can you please be more specific as to how you've 'registered' the dll files?  Which program do you use to do this?  Also, when you guys talk about the dll files - you're probably referring to the driver you can download off their website, right?  The one that should work with Vista/64 und Sonar 6+  ... Right?

I'd really appreciate your help as I've got the same problems with my good old Faderport.  I am using Sonar 8.5.2/64 bit on Windows 7/64.

Thanks.

Heinz.

Sorry for the delay guys. I'm going by memory here since I'm not at my DAW.

After you install the Faderport files, the DLL file can be found in "C:\Program Files\PreSonus\FaderPort\FaderPort Dll".  Copy Faderport.DLL file to the "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces" folder.

Make sure Sonar is closed, and then invoke the Run Command by using the Windows key and and "R" key. Then type:

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces\faderport.dll"

Finally, you'll click OK and you'll see a message that confirms the DllRegisterServer was successful.

Now you can go through the normal steps In Sonar to add the Faderport MIDI ports and control surface. The manual in the latest Presonus FaderPort download includes a section that is dedicated to a Sonar installation.
