I'm brand new to Sonar, and the copy I'm using is X1, which has been working well, so far. But I've run into a problem trying to print a file. Specifically, I'm working with Tutorial 5 -- Working with music notation. At the bottom of the tutorial there's a link which takes me to "Printing your notation." I'm fine until I get to number 3, which says to click "Print Preview." But I can't because Print Preview is grayed out. So is Print, by the way. The only Print related command that isn't grayed out is Print Setup, which allows basic setup of the printer, but when I click on OK within Print Setup, the printer doesn't do anything. All Print Setup does is set up the printer. Finally, at the last of this "Printing your notation" window there's this tip:
Tip:
To change the title, composer and copyright information, select Project > Info to open the File Info window.OK, so I go and do that. Hey, nothing to lose and I hadn't done it yet anyway, so I go there -- only to find that it's copied the pertinent information in from the file I want to print. But now this window, or whatever, is occupying my entire screen and there's no obvious way to get rid of it. No "OK" or "cancel" buttons anywhere, no way to shrink it. Finally I drag about 90% of it off my desktop into that mysterious land of "off the screen." This brings back X1 and my project. So I check the print options again, and this time all three of them are active. So I go to Print Preview, like I was supposed to do in the first place, only to find that the screen I had just gotten rid of is the only image showing. After futzing around with that stupid screen for a while longer I discover it has the all-important X in the top right corner, so I dismiss it. But wouldn't you know it? I'm back to only having "Printer Setup" as my only available printer command.
OK, I give up. It shouldn't be this difficult, especially since the program is clearly not following the dingbusted help routine that came with it! So what's the secret? How does one print out ones sheet music from X1? Hey, if it's not possible, tell me so. I'll save it to midi and export it. I have two or three other programs laying around that I can use for printing sheet music and they all do a fine job. But that really isn't the point, is it? Since X1 says it can be done, I want to know how to do it in X1.
Oh, and an off topic question: I looked around here for the equivalent of a suggestion box, couldn't find anything. Does something like that exist here, or do I just have to email Cakewalk and hope they pay attention?
