... Can you think of any reasons why hardware USB MIDI controller (Maschine) would cause Windows not load?

If your bios has a setting to boot from USB device--disable it, or make it the absolute last boot device. It is possible that window is actually interpreting your controller as a bootable external drive or flash memory device. Since it will not respond to the request for a boot sector, the system thinks it has a failed or missing boot device.

Did I click into the wrong forum?  Can someone direct me to the SONAR X forum?

In order for Sonar to work properly, the computer needs to boot, right...

I have seen compuyers not being able to boot when USB drive is connected (My Laptop does this). But it would just stay dark screen. In case with Maschine, it would attempt to boot Windows- I would see the Windows Logo, so it looking on the right drive, but then fails.
Maschine uses the NI Hardware driver service (NIHardwareService by name).
Go into Services and disable it or set it to manual.
See if that helps.
On my system it is set to start automatically. Manual should be good enough I would think.

Do you mean- disable it in advance?

I did what tech support told me with registry keys clearing- nothing helped. Here is the thread on NI forum. Please, read my last post on the page 2: http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?198913-Windows-8-unable-to-boot-with-Maschine-controller-connected-via-USB

In order for the computer to work at all it must boot.  That doesn't mean there is a problem using SONAR.  CW does have a public forum for Computer issues, however.

You don't have to reply- at all. No pressure. Computer and all it's components are parts of Sonar environment. There is plenty room for all threads. All my friends are in this forum. I am talking to people who care about my problems and willing to help- they do not always read in other forums. This was urgent.

Vlada, I happen to fall into the camp that does not normally read the other forums.  I find I am best able to help with the time I have available when I just stick to this forum.

The bummer part is that I have NO idea why your computer does not even boot up.

Are you getting any sorts of beeps shortly after you try booting?  If so, these are generated by the BIOS trying to tell you there is some sort of fatal error - and you have to track down what the number and nature of the particular beeps you are getting, to be able to know what the trouble is.

Quite LITERALLY, not more than 30 minutes ago, I looked up some beep codes up for someone who brought their computer to me, and it indicated a memory failure on the video card.  Once I removed the video card, the computer IMMEDIATELY booted back up with no trouble at all.

Well, you might be shooting yourself in the foot here, because in the Computer forum there are people who work on computers for a living and would most likely see your post much faster and able to help you more effectively there.  To bad it seems you will only look for solutions from your friends and that only they care about your problems.  Doesn't seem like you are getting what you need nonethless.  You can take it personal or take it as some useful advise.  It's your problem, not mine.

Ok, LR, point taken. Thank you for your input.

Robert, I posted a link to the NI thread. I was able to fix BIOS issue by reseting CMOS and running BIOS update, however, after I did everything NI support told me to do, uninstalling and reinstalling software and drivers and deleting registry keys, it still did not resolve it.

Thank you for suggestion to pay attention to the Beeps. There are some beeps. My computer always beeps when posts one time. It also has red lights sequence while it checking hardware, then they all turn green one at a time. I think there are at least 2 different sounding beeps when Maschine is connected. I would think- if it is hardware, it would not even get to Windows screen. It gives me Windows screen, and then gives up, goes back to black screen, then trying to boot again, beeps and fails. I would attach it again and try to count the beeps, but it is very scary as it feels like every time it goes trough this loop, it comes out weaker and with more issues. For example- it says, "Windows preparing Autorepair". Anything "Auto" freaks me out as I am thinking- what is it going to screw this time? It used to be option to "Cancel" Last time it did not ask "Continue" or "Cancel"- it just went in to something else, attempted to restart again and froze on Asus logo. That never happened before. So I don't really want to try again- afraid- it may self-repair something or die completely. Now- let me tell you this: I attempted to install Maschine on my Haswell computer, and it took almost 5 minutes for it to boot first time. It was just hanging there- I thought- it would fail too, but after a while it booted. 2nd time- it took 3 minutes, then 1 minute, and then it started loading almost normally. So- who knows.

hi vladasyn,
you're running a newer motherboard with uefi bios and windows 8. these aren't your typical old-school bios programs. one of the things that happens is that a lot of people will put their machines into "fast" boot mode which typically bypasses the ability to launch bios at startup.  the solution is, in windows 8, to hit the window key+i and select "change pc settings" at the bottom of the system settings panel.  then, in pc settings, select "general" and scroll down in the right pane and select "restart now" under advanced startup.  when the restart screen comes up select the "troubleshoot" button then the "advanced options" button on the next screen, then "uefi firmware" on the last screen.  that will boot you into bios.  once there, the settings you need to check are:
boot speed - should be set to normal (not fast)
beep sound = off
usb legacy emulation = enabled
boot mode (typically under advanced submenu) = "uefi boot" **** if your computer does not start normally, change this to "csm boot"***

most bios in windows 8 will be accessible through a windows app. most commonly, you go to the windows 8 start screen and type "sys" and you'll likely see a "system settings" icon that you can click on to change bios properties from within windows.

It sounds like your computer is possessed.

It may well be so hosed at this point that you might need to reload Windows, and that means also reloading all software, as well.

PLEASE NOTE that you can save any/all of your data files (sample libraries and documents and such) from the primary drive (the one with Windows on it)if PRIOR to reloading Windows you physically remove that drive from your system and plug it into a different computer that works.  Then, that drive would be seen as a simple data drive, and you could copy whatever you wanted to keep off of that drive and onto a drive on the secondary computer.  (Or to an external drive).  Then, when you get things fixed in the original computer, you could reload that data back onto the reloaded primary drive.
