I've discovered that when I quit working in X3b for a while, about an hour, it will begin "motorboating".  This is with a project begun in X2 that only uses PC modules and plug ins that came with X2.  I haven't had this problem since Sonar 4.  My driver for the FF 400 are up to date, and I have X3b installed correctly.  This seems to be the only glitch that I've found, so far.  I researched this topic on Google, but found very little information.  If anyone can help or suggest a work around, I'd appreciate it very much.  Thanks in advance.

BTW, I'm in 64 bit mode all the way.

I should add that I'm using Superior Drummer 2 (which is up to date), and I've never had any problems with this program before.

This is the only other report of motorboating in X3 that I know of http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2898149

I have seen that post, but it didn't shed any light on my problem because I don't use UAD plugs.  I'm only using native
Sonar plug ins.  Again, this only occurs when Sonar is idle for about an hour or so.

Hi Lynn,

If you are using the new Cake Tape emulator in the Pro Channel it seems to be associated to this.  There have been other posts to this effect as I recall.

Cake did chime in on one of the posts, so I think they are aware.

This is the sort of problem that you should talk to tech support about. Is it possible that something in your power settings times out after an hour?

@STinGA, yes, I am using the new tape emulator!  I'm glad to hear that CW is aware of this.  I will eliminate the TE from the project and see if it continues.  Thanks for the heads up.

@ ampfixer, all my power settings are set to never time out.  Thanks for your reply.

Does it not do this with X2a also? If it does, I would suspect it's a basic issue with drives or other systems going to sleep or the audio driver changing states without notifying SONAR or something like that. If it doesn't do it in X2a... I dunno. I think the biggest audio engine-related changes in X3 are associated with Always Stream Audio Through Effects setting in Preferences. It could be interacting badly your environment or with some particular plugin in the project. You might try disabling it, and see if it makes a difference (other than FX tails not playing out on stop).

Thanks for responding.  No, it has never happened in X2 nor any version of Sonar going back to 4.0.  As noted above, it may be related to the tape emulator in PC.  That was the only addition I made since X3.  I will eliminate that from the project and report back later.
