Thanks for this info. I had a devil of a time trying to do this last year.

For Dimension Pro I have these registry settings modified:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\dp]
"Contents Folder"="K:\\Cakewalk\\Dimension Pro\\Content"
"Multisamples Folder"="K:\\Cakewalk\\Dimension Pro\\"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Cakewalk Music Software\dp]
"Contents Folder"="K:\\Cakewalk\\Dimension Pro\\Content"
"Multisamples Folder"="K:\\Cakewalk\\Dimension Pro\\"

I moved all the stuff from the Program Files folder to the Content folder and the Multisamples to that other folder on my K drive.
I left the Dimension Pro programs in the 'ProgramData' folder on the C drive.

Okay.. so, the double back slashes indicate an other than C: drive location?  Also, The Multisamples folder doesn't follow the string  K:\\Cakewalk\\Dimension Pro\\
  like                     K:\\Cakewalk\\Dimension Pro\\Multisamples

Also.. I vaguely remember something in the Multisample folder that did NOT like to get moved.. any info would be much helpful.
thx,
Dave

The escaped backslashes (double backslashes) are the way the regedit program exports the data. You can key the paths in the registry like "k:\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\" and it will be fine.

You do not want to add Multitsamples to the end of theDimPro Multisample Folder path, it is assumed by the synth.

I have moved directories years ago for Beatscape, DimPro, Rapture, Perfect Space, RXP, SD2 & 3. The synths all work fine.

That is not to say that some installers still might put stuff in the wrong place. When they do, I move the files to the proper place and force the synth browser to rescan the programs.

Yes, this is Regedit export data.

For those who know, you can put in the Regedit header: "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00" and save the text with a .reg extension, then Merge it.

But since you will need to change all the data paths, I didn't want to post it in that format exactly.

This is not the sort of thing one should take lightly.

One last thing (or maybe not!). I recently discovered that the Old Beatscape library has been added to Sonar's X2 audio library in the Loops folder.

Here is the post (copied):

The kicker with Beatscape is that the rx2 files are now part of loops and one-shots. If you go back and install Beatscape you get a duplicate 4GB library of rx2 files. So unless you just want to burn 4GB you are going to have to do a little cleanup after the install. Unless you already have projects dependent on Beatscape, I would just forget about that synth, Cakewalk already has.

Thanks for that tip. Indeed I compared the two and aside from a few minor name changes they are identical.

So I deleted my "Beatscape Factory Content" and made a junction to the Loops folder with the old name. Then open Beatscape and hit F5 to refresh the file list. Works fine.

Very exhaustive work, arachnaut; thanks.  I also keep most of my actual samples from all my programs in a folder called Sample Libraries on a drive by itself.  I put everything there that installations allow me to, and I've found some non-registry ways to get around some other situations.  I hate that companies don't uniformly give you the option to store their sample files where you want them.  This can be particularly hairy with Dim Pro, but if I remember correctly, v1.5 (which I also bought before X2) did ask, which made things easier.  I didn't try the X2 installs of Dim Pro and Rapture, since I already had them, so I don't know if they ask.

But you seem to have gotten it all down to a science here, so I'm sending this thread to myself to add to my reference library.  Thanks again.

Well, every vendor has their share of problems: Live's library editor is really hard to use for maintaining massive samples; NI's Kore is great but no longer supported, and it has a lot of problems with it's database. And if you make many changes to factory-related problems, they often have to be re-done again on an update.

I just recently went through a problem with Alchemy 1.5 RC1 when I worked on the new browser and it all changed in RC2 so I had to start over.

Sometimes I almost give up and just let things be, but a big part of me won't let me sleep at night with that kind of resigned attitude.

One solution would be Omnisphere - totally closed environment. Not my cup of tea, but a wonderful synth.

As long as things aren't encrypted or obfuscated, I'm OK.

And - no dongles!!

Overall, the Cakes have a very libertarian, easy-going approach. I like that. I'm happy to support a vendor with that attitude, in spite of glitches and start-up/set-up problems.

A lot of parts of Sonar's bag of tools are quite dated, some obsolete, but mostly they still work. And I take some of that as a sign that the best parts of Sonar's internals have been around for a long time and must be pretty solid by now.

what i typically do in this situation is just move the file folders and create symbolic links to the new folder in the original location. no registry editing necessary.  i really hate keeping track of registry changes and this is the easiest method i've found to manage things.  also, if and when i need to move them again i only need to move the folders and recreate symlinks without changing the registry again.

Yeah, the registry changes are the only method documented in the knowledge base. Junctions are easier to implement. I have had good results using junctions, for example, the sample libraries in Toontrack and the installers have no problems with them. I hope that the Cakewalk installers work as well with junctions as some of the installers do not work with the registry changes even though the documentation indicates they should.

Wouldn't it be awesome if Cakewalk provided programs to do the moving automatically? Or even just registry repairs for all the cakewalk programs?
