I've been told that the lane zoom issues have not changed...?

What's the scoop?

Honestly, I've been so distracted by the new comping workflow(s) that I've temporarily forgotten about the lane size limitation.

At this point, I'd say lane heights and the ability to hide a lane are the two enhancements I'd like to see most in this area.   But given the work that's already gone into X3 I do believe CW is very much on the right track.      (pun semi-intended)

PS: Speed comping is very cool, and is very much what its name indicates.  One of those unexpected but very appreciated features.

Thanks for the update Steve...

I don't think the speed comping is unexpected as much as it is the way they implemented it is... It's  a very different workflow to how I worked in the past, but it promises to be as fast/easy as before if not better... Time will tell...

I'm very concerned about the zooming issue because for me it's currently hard foe me to see well in X2a...

So, even with the new speed comping, I may not be able to see well enough and/or forced to constantly re-zoom (the nightmare of touchscreen is encroaching on me.... Ever notice how much re-zooming we do on touchscreen apps?)

I look forward to hearing more and checking it out myself someday...

Thanks again...
Keni

Well the current 'comp' is always represented in the main track and you can open that up to any size. Kinda hard to explain, as it's really a whole new workflow.

+1000

I don't comp very often (I will when I ask someone to sing again) so I use lanes as merely a place to stock alternative ideas (MIDI clips). So, a single row lane height and the ability to hide muted lanes are a MUST.

Keni, we've been told on the forum, I think by Noel, that the Lane Zoom is under revision for a future update. It wasn't in X3b, but they comprehend the problem and are looking at how to make things better.

Clearly it is not just a case of changing the min(max) zoom values, although I'd love it if they were changed, even just a little,  to be smaller(larger).

Hi Keni
From my perspective as a user who was no fan of take lanes in X2, most of my annoyance has been alleviated. My main gripe before was the fact that the only track that was resizable was the main track, and that was a giant mess of overlapping muted and unmuted clips. In X3 the unmuted clips are the only ones that show up in the main track. Since I can now "zoom" by soloing a clip and zooming the main track it's a much better situation.
That said, I'd really like an option for independently sizable take lanes, so I'm still crossing my fingers.

Only true for audio tracks. Hope I'm wrong.

Hi Jlien X,
Nope, looks like it's true for MIDI tracks as well. Have a look:

Bottom lane is muted, top is not. In the main track only the top, unmuted clip shows up.

Hi, thanks for confirming. I wonder why this was overlooked. Maybe bakers were too busy baking the new audio comping feature. Will send in a FR for this.
