Hi Folks,

I see Play 4 is now available, just wondering if anyone has loaded it up and given it a test spin yet ?.

If you have, please let us know how it pans out - I might pull the trigger on it tonight ... maybe :-)

Cheers - Cliff

I "upgraded" to Play 4, and a project I had been working on with East/West Stormdrum 2 went nutty. It froze up immediately upon opening. I uninstalled Play 4 and went back to Play 3, but that particular project still gave me occassional freezes until I committed the MIDI to audio and deleted Play from the session.

To find out if I would have continued problems with my reinstalled Play 3, I started a new project, inserted both Stormdrum 2 and Hollywood Strings, and recorded some parts into MIDI. No trouble at all.

They warn on the Play Software Update download page, "If you are in the middle of a project, it may be prudent to wait until the project is complete."

I have writing projects in various stages of completion utilizing Play 3. I can't very well move ahead to Play 4 if it's going to mess with all of those projects. Unfortunately, East/West doesn't do it like Sonar, where you can keep old versions of the program on your computer. Once you go with Play 4, Play 3 goes bye-bye.

There is a project I've been working on that I think I'm going to need to restart as I'm getting some strange bugs such as HW Brass and making my French Horn patch go all wonky in one of the projects I'm working on.

I've also been having a lot of crashes and I'm not sure if it has something to do with Play or Sonar. It's been getting very annoying.

I am using Symphonic choirs wih Play 4 in Sonar X2. There is some serious issues with tempo change. When I do it, complete project start to sound weird and with wrong samples playing. I must restart Sonar and everything works OK. I downloaded Cubase 7 trial and try Play 4 within it. Everything works without one glitch. So my answer is that Sonar has some serious problems with VST. But this is not the first time I noticed this kind of problems, but I gived up some years ago to reporting, nobody listen in Cakewalk...

So despite the warning given out by EWQL themselves, you insist that Sonar's to blame?

Interesting logic.

I'm not the poster, but I can understand his frustration.  That being said, I've been around midi and computers too long to know there are too many variables involved and no way to be sure it's Sonar to blame.

I'm only replying here for clarification:  What warning from EWQL are you referring to?  I don't see anything in this thread about any known issues....  (Okay, I read the wrong post,  I get it... Yep, totally unreasonable to update in the middle of a project, then complain when there's a problem.  Guys, you can complain after the project's done! ).

I bought my first EastWest product nearly two years ago and have never upgraded Play.  It is working and I can't afford the risk after hearing all the complaints.  (I use it for Hollywood Strings and Fab Four.)

I bought Ra and SD2 when Play 3 first came out. I had to shelve them for almost a year before they worked properly. I'd guess the same will likely have to happen with Play 4.

My thoughts exactly konradh.

Play 3 is working 100% effectively here with EWQLSO Platinum and I'm not upsetting that for anything.

Avoid Play 4 like the plague! I'm holding off until EW gets it sorted....the support section over on their forum is loaded with complaints (for nearly every DAW out there). Play 3 is worked flawless for me the past three years, and I don't have any reason to move to Play 4.....there aren't really any major advantages. I'm right in the middle of a film score, and the last thing I need is to find out nothing works.

Like that old philosophy; if it works, don't change it!
