Hearing loss needn't have a severe impact on your mixes. What you're losing starts at the extreme high end of the spectrum and moves downward over time. IOW, the least-important frequencies are the first to go. The most-important are last to go.

Another mitigating factor: average hearing acuity is diminishing across all populations. Constant earbud usage has resulted in 1/3 of all teenagers having the hearing acuity of a 55-year-old. Now, if a 17-year-old has the hearing of a 55-year-old, what will he be hearing when he's actually 55? Experts worry that in another 30 years hearing impairment will have become a major health crisis.

So yes, you may actually have better hearing in your 50's than many teens. (Although this may not apply to those of us who've been playing in bands for half a century.)

Dave,

You're my hero. Springsteen can only manage to play four hours a night.

It only seems like a long time when it's 1:00 AM and you're used to being in bed by 9.

I have a hearing test scheduled for Thursday.  I know I have tinnitus.  I am starting to have difficulty hearing single voices in crowded rooms, restaurants, etc.  Women's voices have become difficult to hear some times.  I am sure that it has effected my mixing, but I haven't noticed it so far.  Having other to bounce the mixes off of, helps a lot as well.

Truth!!

I've had permanent tinnitus in one ear for nearly a decade now. Discerning single voices out of many is nigh on impossible, everything just sounds like a wash of noise inside my head.

How awful, sorry to hear that BJ.  After studying classical guitar for so long, and it being such an intimate instrument I find that I have gotten very good (I realize there can be physical limitations) at listening.  Much better than I ever was when I was playing through an amplifier.  People can't believe that I listen to the TV at such a low volume, and to me when I go to their houses I'm constantly saying to turn it down.  Naturally I probably can't hear anything above 15k and I don't realize it, but in terms of the quantity of sound, I've gotten much better.

The curious thing is, I am told by people (whose opinions I value), that my mixes are getting better & better.
