The curious thing is, I am told by people (whose opinions I value), that my mixes are getting better & better.

Go figure.............

Well, people are liking bass more and more... just don't use subwoofers and you'll likely be OK!

How about an over 50 Prochannel plugin??  Set the dial for your age and presto!  Also reminds you to take your pills and schedule your annual colonoscopy.

Some of the most famous, and in (expensive) demand engineers are well into their fifties and older.

I refuse to believe that their magical golden ears are somehow protected from hearing loss whether age related or otherwise. Though the worst emgineer I ever had the misfortune to be limbered with (band demo in the 90s and a couple of members insisted we used this guy) was so deaf he couldn't hear obvious digital clipping.

And one of the best had ears so golden you had to shout at him all the time....

I was thinking the same...those who are regarded the best today seems to be over 50 from my best guess. Though I had hard time finding their birthday on the interwebs :-) f.ex. Dave Pensado and CLA.

My solution nowadays is to run my mixes past my friends dog. If it starts to howl then the top end is too high

Tom Dowd claimed that he could mix by just watching the meters and using the sliders. Other people said, not so much.. still it should be a help if you practice and compared with tracks you know have the same frequency range and you know sound good, I'd think so anyway. Just another tool in the box... I don't think it would be a replacement for good ears but if something looks all wrong it might be an indicator, IDK.
