Jimbo 88I jumped to Cubase and finding there are a lot of pluses to doing so.

That's been my experience.

Jimbo 88...But after that, Cubase just is head shoulders more advanced especially if you score to picture. Latency is not an issue...

Yes, that's one of my main DAW tasks and it's been a treat to put Cubase through those paces.

Another one of my unexpected treats was how well Cubase integrates outboard synths. Porting my Cakewalk .INS info in Cubase ScriptMaker was kind of a hack-y experience, but after that, it's been wonderful. Being able to use my outboard synths as VSTs, etc., has been excellent. I'm actually inclined to use them more in Cubase, where it Studio One, you kind of feel like giving them up!

Jimbo 88After what Gibson did and seeing all the better features in Cubase I am kicking myself for being such a Sonar "fanboy".  I Should have jumped ship long ago.

Ouch. Well, I hate to speak ill of the "dead," but yes, so far I wish I had jumped into Cubase sooner. Sonar isn't that bad at all, and I loved it...but I do find Cubase a better environment for me.

Studio One 3.5 is rock solid here. It's been less than a month and I had a full session a week ago with no problems. I'm still learning new things but I must admit I'm a believer now of all the hype.

I feel the same as you! Since switching to Studio One 3 a month ago has been wonderful. I’ve recorded songs with ease, tried Platinum after this time and Sonar just felt “Clumsy and Slow?” Studio One has been “Rock Solid” very intuitive, easy to learn. I was on the fence with Cakewalk for sometime, been with Cakewalk since 8.0 I was tired of the “Bugs” that never get fixed with too much Legacy Bloated Software.

I really don't get the fascination with ProChannel.  It was nothing extra and nothing you couldn't do on any other channel with the FX Bin.  Yes, they had a few extra effects only available to the ProChannel, but none of them were special and every one of them has counterparts that you can get from WAVES, IsoTope, or even free.

Midiboy “Yes!” ProChannel? I get better results with FabFilter, Waves, NuGen etc.

I have to agree about Studio One. I bought the program Saturday night, last night I made 5 midi songs with it. The work flow is fantastic. Very easy once you learn it. Here's one of the ones I made last night......https://soundcloud.com/djwayne2000/new-york

It is about workflow.  with Pro Channel a few clicks and you have a full effect chain added to every single channel.  Then you have the ability to tweak each one without having to open a new UI for each plugin.  If you don't see the value in that then I'm guessing you have too much time on your hands.

I use WAVES and Izotope also, but honestly they slow down the process because they are not prochannel.  I use them because I like the sound.

The FX bin isn't the same thing.

Gibson threw away Cakewalk and its one-of-a-kind Pro Channel
In an attempt to save Sankyo and Phillips consumer hifi divisions.
That's like me throwing away my EDS-1275 to save my Epiphone SG Bass.

Everybody and their mother has an effects bin.
Only Sonar has a Pro Channel.

For me I see no reason at all to move to another DAW.
Sonar does everything I want and need it too and a lot more than that even.

I'm with you Bitman...

Even with all the ongoing issues I had with it's development, it is still far better overall than any other.

We'll see if/when a time comes when this is no longer true.

I've checked out PT, S1, DP, Reaper, Mixcraft, and Mixbus... Cubase doesn't currently have a demo available, but from the last time I did check it out, it had a long way to go to catch up to Sonar of that time.
