Hello everyone. I started this thread so users can share their experience when running TH2 as a plugin in Sonar.  I will be following up with one of my experiences shortly.

I see you dug up my ancient thread from when I first started using TH2. Not much has changed since then. I upgraded to the full version shortly after posting that thread (over a year ago) and I still think it's awesome. Looking forward to buying their MarkII Bass sim when I can scrape up the dough. TH2 definitely kicks some serious butt.  I will be using TH2 as a plugin in X2 live at my next gig this weekend. I already created some custom patches that I like.  One of them is for break down in Donnie Iris - Ah Leah.  I am using a vibrato effect with a touch of reverb and playing the notes staccato and the band loves it.  I will be making video tutorials and posting them on my YouTube channel along with sharing my experience along the way. 

I get a little nervous with the idea of using a computer to control things live (even using the most basic gear I tend to blow things up on stage). What would be very cool is if Overloud designed some kind of bulletproof pedalboard/computer module type setup to run the program as efficiently as possible. I've always wanted a Boss GT series pedalboard but if Overloud came up with one for TH2 I think I'd be more inclined to try that.
 
Glad you are enjoying the program. I'm hoping they keep working on some licensing deals to expand their model range. I think they are becoming a force to be reckoned with and hopefully more big players will hop on board. I thought maybe we'd see more licensing of Boss technology due to the Roland/Cakewalk/Overloud partnership but now that Roland is out of the picture that may not happen. Boss have always been my favorite pedals.

Thanks for the reply and valuable feedback Beepster, its much appreciated.  You are not alone being nervous with the idea of using a computer to control things live.  The singer in my band was very worried to the point we had a band vote. In the end, we decided to meet in the middle and go with a hybrid setup.  
 
I'll be running 2 x guitars + bass (3 channels Sonar X2) -> M-Audio FW1814 as a sub mix -> house mixer. I have one MIDI channel setup MIDI control. Then we will run 3 x vocals + digital drums -> house mixer. I will be using a Behringer FCB 1010 to control TH2.
 
The PA is setup and we have been using this setup at practice with great results so far. I will always have a backup processor hooked up and ready to go in case something happens. This next show will be a beta test using the hybrid setup live. I will follow up with results to let you know how things went.   

I just checked to see if TH2 is Mac compatible and indeed it is. For stage reliability perhaps you might want to look into picking up a used Mac Mini and running it standalone. Seems like that might be a little more stable than a Windows laptop.
 
Otherwise building a dedicated (or semi dedicated) micro ATX system with a good solid case or perhaps a rackmount case to run it would be a bar worthy solution.
 
I however used to deal with pretty chaotic crowds so perhaps your fans are a little less smashy. ;-)
 
Oh and another thing to consider is crappy stage power. It is likely worth it to look into get a surge protecting un-interuptable power supply to plug it into. That way you don't fry your system or if there is a power fluctuation have the system shut down or have your interface connection dropped.

You have to go through Overloud. Seems Cake only makes it available for short periods. Surprised they haven't run a special since the X3 release.

I will see if I can find a sponsor to help fund a good MAC and a uninterruptible power supply which is a great idea :). When I saw the Led Zep experience with Heart, there were numerous people playing guitar parts through a computer. Hardware is starting to slowly shift towards software in the music industry. Thanks again for all the helpful advice.  

I just realized though that you may be running the Sonar version of TH2. Sonar does not run on Mac. I was referring to the full version of TH2 which does and operates standalone so you wouldn't even need a host to run it which would likely be more stable. TH2 seems to have a pretty good MIDI controller set up on it's own (there are vids on youtube showcasing using it this way... worth a look if you haven't already). Also if you are going to use it as a VST within a host I'd be a little wary of using X2 as the host. It has a tendency to be a little finicky but some people seem to be able to get it to work this way.
