I have a silly/stupid question....

I am working on a project and have a partner across the country.. He is INDIFFERENT to DAW (doesn't use it much).. and we want to work on something together. I was wondering if I was able to get Sonar X2 locally here and give him the registration information in the box.. will he be able to "register it" with Cakewalk.. and then qualify for the free upgrade to X3 and be able to download that? I don't think he has a dealer nearby who would have X2 or x3.

Of course if he has X3 then we both can use Gobbler to coordinate our project.. and that's my ultimate goal.

Thanks

Doubtful and it is fraud too. I would buy him X3 basic if I were you.

It's not fraud if he doesn't register x2 himself which I understood was his plan here. I don't know about the eligibility for a free upgrade but as long as the purchase criterion and the sole user registration criterion are met I don't see what the problem is.

It doesn't matter who buys Sonar. It matters who registers it. Of course I'm talking about a box set, not the download because the download seems to be inextricably connected to the purchaser.

If he uses an upgrade in this way it is fraud. Buying his friend Sonar X3 for him is not.

The price is $99 for the full boxed Sonar X3 at Sweetwater.

I would in essence buy X2 in a boxed form locally HERE and give the info to my friend so he can register it.. and then download the X3 files for the upgrade. I would send him he box for the X2 version I purchased locally. It's a gift to him.. I'm just "expediting" the process so we can get started before so we don't have to wait till NEXT weekend to begin working on the project.. he'd have X3 this weekend already is my thinking.. I already have X3.. I don't need another copy. =)

He never said anything about using an upgrade -

If your friend registers the x2 you buy for him, he would be eligible for the upgrade option to X3 - which would mean he would have to provide credentials for the X3 download - not you.
Maybe the X3 option john points to would be your best option.

That is perfectly fine and very good of you.
