Beepster, the ARA integration in Sonar is quite impressive imo.  Just drag an audio file on to a midi track and it is converted.  First time I did it was by accident and was blown away.  I accidentally dropped an audio recording on to the lounge lizard piano and next thing I know it converted it and it sounded so good i layered it with the original audio track.

Wow. Freaky. How about time warping audio? Can it speed up/slow down audio clips like Audiosnap?

Beepster, thanks for the compliment, but like you, I am always learning and amazed by what i don't know.  That is the awesome thing about forums like this is that we all share .  In Sonar the three most basic ways are to use audiosnap, meloldyne or v-vocal.  I also saw in a video once a method that used sidechaining to create a track with better transients.  I will post if i can remember which one it was.

No rush my friend. This thread now has the little dealybob on it to tell me I've put my smear on it so I'll be checking back. If I can figure out better ways to fix my old off the floor/live/terribly off tempo stuff then I'm all over that. Audiosnap gives me a headache as is.

I did make a somewhat glib remark about Audiosnap 3.0 to Mr. Bill Jackson recently and he seemed receptive. However if Melodyne can act as a replacement... well then X3 is starting to look a little more tantalizing. Cheers.

Beeps, are you looking for something different than Ctrl+slip-edting?

The version of melodyne that comes with Sonar is great but to really warp things, an upgrade to assistant or editor is needed.

Yeah. I need to take big long clips and speed up/slow down parts throughout them. I'm trying not to slice and dice everything but it may come to that. I was watching some stuff about the Loop Constructor view and that might help but it seems like that might be a real hassle to deal with and introduce not so nice stutters and other weirdness to the tracks. If Audiosnap worked as advertised it would be ideal but it seems to enjoy crapping itself if you push it too hard.

Oh and hi, mmorgan. Hope you've been well. You've always been a quality poster. Your insights are appreciated. Cheers.

Right back atcha bud.

And on the AudioSnap vs Melodyne front: I was fortunate enough to have purchased Melodyne a year or so ago so I forgot about AS doing MIDI. I think the introduction of ARA/Melodyne is among the most awesome features of X3. It's tre magnifieq!

Thanks. I'll have to look into this more. I don't know much about melodyne. I thought it was basically an Auto Tune clone but it sounds like it does a lot more. I was looking more at Izotope stuff for pitch correction as it comes with some of the Suites I've been looking at. For the time warping though (amongst other editing/premixing stuff) I was basically looking at other DAWs.... which yanno, isn't ideal.

Regards,

Yes, very good addition indeed. To me I wasn't really too concerned about pitch correction but now I'm seeing that Melodyne can do other stuff so as I said some points are being awarded back to Cake for that one. Whether they are enough to push me over the edge... well we'll see how X3 stands up over the next few months after the new DAW scent fades and folks really get a chance to run it through the paces.

I hear you. I was going to stay out of the upgrade frenzy for awhile. And I did, A. Very. Short. While.

I installed last Friday so I still only have a few hours into it. I'm planning on writing up my thoughts when I get a bit more time in...so far I'm thinking it, to paraphrase John: RAWKS!
