Beepster, the ARA integration in Sonar is quite impressive imo.  Just drag an audio file on to a midi track and it is converted.  First time I did it was by accident and was blown away.  I accidentally dropped an audio recording on to the lounge lizard piano and next thing I know it converted it and it sounded so good i layered it with the original audio track.

Wow. Freaky. How about time warping audio? Can it speed up/slow down audio clips like Audiosnap?
The version of melodyne that comes with Sonar is great but to really warp things, an upgrade to assistant or editor is needed.

I only played with the Essential version for a few days before I began watching Melodyne's videos and took advantage of the upgrade offer. Now I cannot distinguish what features were in Essential (I did more learning with the Editor version). I think dubdisciple may be 100% accurate with this statement (they do have nice info on their website). Since X3 users got the $100 version and a deal to upgrade to the $400 (polyphonic) version for $150, I did pounce on that one.

One of these days I want to "stress test" Melodyne's Editor and see if I can run it on a completed song to see how accurately it pulls out all notes :)

The offer came twice... first was when you registered Essential... then they also emailed the address you registered with (with like a 10 days window to claim it).

I have contacted their support already on a question about the Editor version and they responded quick, so if you cannot find it I would recommend sending them an email.

Hey Beepster, yes indeed, metal is what I mostly do. I work in several studios around town, plus my own. I have to do whatever the clients want, but when I actually have the luxury of working on my own stuff, it is always metal.

I've used AD for a few years now... and I've layered AD over drums on a few tracks.  Old school involved chopping up sections to get hits on the beat, then looping that bar or section... AD often sounded better than recorded drums, so I switched to elec drums.  Now I record those in midi and tweak the AD kit to my liking.

Cool, man. Exactly where I'm trying end up in my career. Lots to learn still though. Cheers.
