What's missing, *in* fortunately is the hubris and arrogance of *those assumed to know*.  Just look at this thread!  HAHA

I have no idea what you just said.

I'll just say... President Camacho turned out to be one awesome mammajamma.

In some cases those presumed to know will never admit they're wrong.  They'll simply say everyone else is stupid, and then go back to school and run up another few thou in debt.  *I'm not wrong, you're just dumb!* :D  It's hella cheaper just to admit one is wrong.

In reality, what actually happens is that they are corrected by their peers. And if you think spelling and grammar nazis are bad, try oversimplifying something in a technical arena sometime.

Never start a sentence with 'and'.

Abstraction doesn't equal complexity.  *Any damn fool can make something complex, it takes a genius to make something simple* <pete seeger>

Yes. That makes much more sense.

Absolutely no subset of demographics of any kind isn't without a whole buttload of stupid people who think they are absolutely right. Those are the one's the smarter ones manipulate to get what they want by mobilizing them.

That's never going to change.

What's important is that the "smarter" ones have the compassion and skills to a) genuinely attempt to make their flock's lives better (preferably through sheer altruism but personal reward is not necessarily a bad motivator as long as the results are good) and b) are actually able to ACCOMPLISH the things that need to be done to make their flock's lives better.

b) is where things can get very complicated...

No, abstraction doesn't equal complexity in a quid pro quo sense, but neither does abstraction eschew complexity when the issue demands it.

Saying that it takes a genius to make "something" simple is far different than saying that a genius can make "anything at all" simple. I did not hire my landscaper to perform my heart transplant. I hired a brilliant heart surgeon with experience. Neither did I ask her to explain every step of the procedure as she performed it. I ascertained beforehand to the best of my satisfaction that she was capable, let her put me under, and woke several hours later with a new heart. That was seven years ago this coming Thanksgiving.

I guess she was "okay."

BTW, Goebbels may have been right when he suggested that if one repeats a fallacy enough, people will believe it, but I certainly hope that's not the case.
