I read this post... and am honestly not sure how to reply... I think scook's comment above is VERY valid even with X1d... especially as you make bigger projects, RAM will be the thing you "see/feel" most. Your hard disk will "function as RAM" but is ~300 times SLOWER.
I admit freely that my personal experience with X2 was not good (and I did fall back on X1d during the chaos). HOWEVER... I have been thoroughly impressed with X3...
As far as "plugins," research what is in each release (I honestly CANNOT speak to these all, and freely admit it)... as far as your computer... if you enjoy home recording, there are fairly inexpensive options to upgrade your PC (and I feel you need to do this FIRST). As I review X3 based on "what is included" (at least for producer), I see a LOT of things included in X3 producer that I paid money for (in pervious versions).... meaning "comparable plug-ins."
For what it is worth... upgrading the computer will surprise you... and interface (I feel) is #2... from there, I think you will find your "horizons" opened, and you can understand "what is possible." I DO realize that budget is very much a deciding factor to all of this!!
As I finish typing this, I worry I may not have made "sense" to you... but I *did* focus on the "2G RAM" myself, and realize that will limit you in many ways.

Thanks for your post, yes i do understand and will get more Memory.
At the present time i hardly do more than 6 - track's, and that don't require that mutch power.
So as an happy amateur, learning mixing music with X1d with the spec's i have work's for me.
Concerning plugins i working hard to find a few plugins, one or two EQ's, and one compressor ( 1176 type )
that suits me and of course it has to be 64 bit plugs, then i do not have to worry about extra CPU
load from bitbridge.
I do understand a bigger amount of Ram will benefit a lot, when running sample library's etc
and like 20+ audio tracks

, and loads of plugins.
