  • Can't Reinstall Guitar Rig 4?

Guitar Rig 4 (LE, I think; the one that came with Producer X1) had no presets. I went looking for an answer as to why and read that I should uninstall, then reinstall.
Trouble is, the InstallAware Wizard spits out an error when I try to do the install: "No previous installation found. Please run the full product installer before running this update installer.

As far as I can tell, however, the installer I'm running (Guitar Rig 4.1.1 Setup.exe) is the full product installer. It's the one I got with X1 Producer when I bought it.

Elsewhere on this forum, I read that the Guitar Rig installer can be accessed through the Sonar X1 Advanced installation dialog. However, I have Sonar patched all the way up to X1d and running the original installer (Sonar X1 pre-a, I guess it would be) I get a message saying that (I'm paraphrasing) the installed version is incorrect for the installer I'm trying to run, which makes perfect sense, but I can't get at the Advanced dialog.

So... does anyone know how I can go about reinstalling Guitar Rig given these restrictions?

I would contact NI directly, as you are looking for the plug-in only. NI installed GR4 via a "Service Center" program on my machine ("C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\Service Center\ServiceCenter.exe") Do you still have that on your machine? If so, this would be the quickest route.

If not, try contacting NI (https://co.native-instruments.com/?id=updates). I have contacted them in the past and had quick response.

I second that response from Michael - NI responded well when I had a similar issue after losing a hard drive.

Go to NI site and download the latest Service Centre, if you had previously registered your version of GR 4 Le then it will appear in Service centre and you'll be able to reinstall it.

Thanks, guys. I'll do that and come back to report how it goes.
I appreciate all your responses.

EDIT:
I went to the NI site and in the My Account area under My Products and Serials, I found a download for:
Guitar Rig 4 LE Sonar X1 Producer
It's a zip file, BTW.
I ran it and lo! and behold! it installed.
The standalone version works as expected with a full list of presets. Now to try the VST.
Again, thanks Michael, musicroom and Mike V. I really appreciate your help.

The VST works, too.

I'm a bit disappointed with the input echo, though. Can't record with my guitar running through the FX bin because of the lag.

I remember when I installed GR LE with X1, I too had no presets.  The fix was to download the update from NI website.  That fixed the problem.

The lag with GR can be hit or miss. I have sometimes defaulted to running a clean guitar through the mix then adding GR after the fact. Are you running it ASIO?

As I was looking for how to help I noticed that there is a new "Controller Editor" so installed this. One issue I had with GR5 (but not GR4) was the presets would randomly cycle near the end of one track on me. NI had attributed it to the controller editor, but I could never find where/how it was triggering, and as I played with it more it got worse. It would even shift to presets I had stored after the track was recorded. I have not checked how GR5 and X3 play together yet, but saw some forum posts that seemed discouraging.

This behavior never occurred for me using GR4, so I fell back onto GR4 for a while.

Yup. Everything seems to be working fine except for the lag and if memory serves, I have latency set to somewhere under 12ms. Might even be as low as 8ms. I'd read somewhere about how someone else had dealt with it, but I'll have to find that again. For now, I'm just recording clean.

I suppose if I want to be sure of exactly what I'll end up with, I could run GR in standalone, get the exact sound, record clean and mimic GR's settings in the plugin.

Very strange. I guess I should feel lucky I don't have the money for the upgrade. :)

Thanks for the extra info.
