I'm a big fan of RX...however...even their "low low" price was way too rich for me. 



...  There is one feature in the Advanced package I would use heavily, which is the noise reduction that can separate tonal material from background noise... 




Can you actually get rid of audience noise? I always thought that was impossible to do.

Yes and no.  All the other noise reduction tools I've tried (and those we all freebies)really fouled up the good material, so I could never use those except in really dire situations.  RX3 really can remove noise without really hurting the program.  If you are asking whether it is possible to completely eliminate background noise with no hard whatsoever to the program material, no that isn't likely to happen.  But even the basic RX3 can do a very useful amount of noise removal, leaving good sounding program content. 
 
The Advanced program has a "deconstruct" capability that can separate tonal material from non-tonal.  I have not used that, but I presume that if your program is highly tonal (not percussion), it should be able to dig a lot deeper to extract just the tonal content.  Here's an example of extracting only the NON-tonal part, but you can go the other way too.
