As you know I've been having problems with the East West Symphonic orchestra program working in X3....well I figured it out. On installation, you must browse your computer and find the Program File> Cakewalk>VST files and install it directly there, or else X3 won't find it properly and you'll get errors. Once I did that, EWSO Gold Play 4 browser worked perfectly in X3b. Yay !!  \o/

I received my Gold Play Edition program in the mail today, and installed all the ewi files, that was another problem I was having last week as the Play browser won't play the old nki files.....so anyhow, I've got it all working now, but boy was it a challenge.

Don't you just simply mean that SONAR X3 needs to scan the location where you installed Play?

I have Play 4 installed in C:\Progrm Files\vstplugins not C:\Program File\Cakewalk\vstplugins and X3 finds Play 4 just fine. FWIW, I installed Play 4 during my X2 days (IOW before X3 was even installed).

Well for some reason when I did a stock install, Sonar would find it, but would give me an error message and would say that it wasn't installed properly. After I installed it into Cakewalk's VST folder, Sonar had no problem opening it up.

All I can say is now every program I have is up and running with X3b and man is my DAW is SWEEEEEEETTTT !!!!!!!

Just curious... did run the Play installer as Administrator when you installed it "elsewhere".

I have conditioned myself to run any installer as Administrator.

No I just opened up the installer and went thru the motions...apparently something wasn't quite right, but now it's working perfectly.

Hopefully it keeps working perfectly for you. I am fed up with Play :/. It installed and runs fine, but it has issues with sound. It was bugging out badly when I had my ASIO buffer set to 50ms, even on fast bounces (why soundcard buffer should matter to a fast bounce is a total mystery). With a lower buffer it works better, but sometimes it'll go crazy during a bounce, need to be unfrozen and refrozen again. It is just a pain in the butt, and lead me to buy Komplete in search of a synth that doesn't have so many problems.

Just keep your ears perked for sound issues when using Play. I've been having them for years (Play 3 had issues with scratches and pops).

I'm using a simple midi recording to test out Play 4 and it's working perfectly for me.

Sounds great !!

I have Play 4 and Komplete. When I had 3 instances of play opened and inserted Novation V-Station soft synth- it went bananas- everything started freezing and Sonar crashing. I could not delete V-Station as attempt would freeze the project and so on. I had to start Sonar in Safe mode and test plug ins one by one. So the problem was with V-station but related to Play. So- yeah- it should work from any folder- Sonar would scan for it in specified location. I am glad to meet more Play users- we should talk!

I've had such a problem with these Play instruments (have a lot) but now are all happy. But I haven't tried them in X3--forgot about jumping through those hoops.

I use a ton of EastWest instruments, and I'm still on Play 3 because it works perfectly. Do you notice any improvements with Play 4? Great to hear it works in X3!
