Hi guys

How can I determine if X3 loaded the VST2 or VST3 version of a plugin?

Especially when it comes to WAVES and FabFilter ... but also in general ?

This seems to be a crucial thing to be able to determine with certainty when tracking problems with projects created in X2a where plugs got replaced by VST3 (or not) ....

i believe there is an option in Preferences to force X3 to load VST3's in place of any VST2 in your system. So i guess my answer is just trust that sonar is doing its job. Check the plugin manager, or the default VST3 insert plugin list to see which have been installed.

edit: have you tried 'plug in properties' (i think its labelled) from an open plugins VST drop down menu?

from the plug-in properties form, click on details and you get the plug-in path. If your VST3 plugins are in a different folder to your VST2 ones, this will identify them, but I don't see any other info here that might help (ie if you've got them in the same folders)

Not absolutely sure fire since some VST'3s dont support it, but you can also look at the bypass button on the top left of the effects window. If the button is enabled it is a VST3. If disabled (grayed out) its most likely a VST2.
In the future we may add better feedback for this in the UI.

Thanks, all.

Meanwhile I came across the bypass button, but hadn't thought about the "plug in properties"
