One way to go is create a new empty project and copy and paste the tracks from the old one to the new. See if that works.

I'll try that after lunch.

Hey WallyG,

I had pretty much the exact same thing happen to me. I was editing a bass line that I did with Native Instruments Rickenbacker bass running on Kontakt 5. I had been editing in the PRV for about 20 minutes, and then I went to move a single note, clicked on it, and it crashed to the desktop. This was my first X3b crash, and I've had no crashes since. However, I was not asked if I'd like to report it to Cakewalk. It's ok though. Other than this one incident, X3 has been really solid for me. And I'm loving the new comping features. They are a real time saver.

Specs: (in case I'm overlooking something obvious) Sonar X3b PE running on Win 7 64 bit. AMD FX 8350 8 core @ 4.1Ghz, 16 Gb RAM. M-Audio Profire 610, Axiom 25 and Yamaha Kx8 Midid controllers. GeForce GTX 460 video card.

Cakewalk has tried the MIDI file I sent them and could not repeat. Even though I'm using the same hardware I've used on several projects, I'll do some further investigating to see I can pin it down on this end.

I've been trying for about an hour to make it happen again and couldn't. Since I've not had any other issues for 9 days using the same program, different scores, Dan at Cakewalk couldn't duplicate (thank you Dan for trying!) and now I can't, I'll just chalk it up to magic...
Thanks John for your support.

Do you have any VSTs?
What Softsynth are you driving with the MIDI?

No Softsynths. The MIDI channel is driving a Roland Integra 7 Rackmount. I've done this with 16 channels on other songs with no problems.

Interesting you mention 16 channels. I've found while using PLAY, if I fill all channels in an instance of PLAY including the 16th channel, I get a crash (in X2a). This took me a couple of days to figure out and I thought it was other things contributing to the crash. But when I figured it out, I stopped using the 16th channel and everything works flawlessly. I have no idea why this is. Try it without using the 16th and tell us what happens. Worth a try.

Thanks. What I don't understand is that I've been using the same setup (song files/hardware) with X2 for months with no problems. 10 days ago I installed X3 and it worked fine until Sunday when X3 became unreliable. Last night it happened again. I started up the computer to play a couple backing tracks (one was the 20 piece big band sound) and everything was okay until I shut down X3. Gave me the tranparent white screen. (I only used Sonar to play back the songs, no editing)
Dan G. has all the Cakewalk Problem Repots. I'm suspecting installing X3b patch might have caused the problem. I'll try uninstalling X3A/B and reinstalling just X3A. I'll first wait until I get a response from Cakewalk.

I've modified my Signature to add a couple hardware devices I had left out.
