I've used system restore to go back to 10/4/13. I installed the X3b patch on 10/5/13 at night. 10/6/13 is when everything started turning to doo-doo. Hmmm, correlation?
 
I'll be using the program most of the day and see how it performs.

Well that did the trick. I used "System Restore" to bring back my music room computer back to a day before I installed the X3b patch. I've used X3a now for a couple days with no issues.
 
I suspect that the installation of "b" didn't go well for whatever reason. I will stick with "a" for awhile and then re-download the "b" patch and see what happens. As they say "all's well that ends..."
