Very pleasant. I didn't think the drums were too much. +1 on congas or suchlike. Well mixed generally, though I was becoming consciously aware of your violin "swells" in volume, maybe a little less of those would be in order. Dynamics are desirable, but sometimes, the movement from softer to louder can "ramp up" too quickly, and I wonder if that's what I was noticing.

I'll have another cup of coffee and listen again! well done, huh?

cheers,
-Tom

Thanks very much guys!

Yeah, I already put a volume envelope knocking those swells down by several db but was wondering if I should bring them down even more so thanks for that.
Actually what I need to do is spend more time learning the articulations in that particular vst (EW Gypsy Violin) but since subscribing to Composer Cloud I've been like a kid in a candy store just kinda "tasting" everything.
Thanks again guys, I'll let you know when I upload a newer version.

Nice track Randy.

I agree with Bit. Find a few percussion loops and drop them in. It tends to make the midi stuff "gel" a lot better.

I'd also drop the level of the hi hat. It tends to jump out a bit on my system.

Cheers.

Is there a particular instrument (conga, agogo, etc) you're hearing Peter? ...and also do you mean just reinforcing the groove already there or do you mean accents on a beat that's not there?

I'll assume you mean the accents on (every other) beat 3 and 1...if so you're probably right I was really trying to bring out that groove (and left it too hot). I'll bring it down or replace it totally with something else (maybe an agogo or cabasa would work well) but I do want to bring out that loping/swing feel it gives.

Thanks very much Peter,
Randy
EDIT: I'm also wondering if I should replace the choir parts with brass?

Yes, I would drop in a loop to reinforce the groove.

The minute you add a groove that has a real human feel to it, it gives the track a lot more "feel".

Great job on this and the video helped it to all come together. Bit may have something going on in that mind of his. I to like percussion and lots of it, so have fun and enjoy. Very nicely done so far.

Peace and Blessings, John

I haven't used loops in ages but using the browser, I poked around in cakewalk content and all of them appear to be in 4 (and mostly full beats)...this piece is in 3/4.
Am I missing something here?
Thanks,
Randy

Randy, this is really impressive.  I like the way it all syncs up and the flow of this music.  You've already receive good advice, so I'll just take my hat off to you.

Thanks John, I've been a drummer for over 4 decades so I'm into lots o' percussion too!
I have E-drums so maybe I'll try to play some more stuff in (and not quantize of course) unless someone knows where I can find some 3/4 loops.
Thanks again,
Randy

Thanks Lynn, it's kinda funny how it came together ... it started out with me just softly playing that main theme (starting at 0:29) on a piano... I liked the progression but it was a friggin waltz!
I started beefing it up and then wondered how it would work with people dancing a traditional waltz...I found it so weird I made the working title "huh?"
Thanks again Lynn,
Randy
