Not to shift focus too much, but I'm kinda surprised so many people still don't use internet on their DAW computer these days, I suppose out of fear for viruses and malware? I haven't had a virus on my computer since Windows Milennium, And if you're worried, Microsoft Security Essentials or indeed AVG Free should do you fine. Generally speaking one could do without either of those if you simply don't browse "iffy" sites or open email attachments called "thisisnotavirus.exe".
I couldn't imagine not having mail, wetransfer, updating, dropbox and online authorization on my DAW computer.

I would think that the installer would make entries to the register...which would not be copied.

But if it's working for you....then evidently it doesn't matter :) .

If you were doing this as a job, would not you want a pc crash in front of your client for a wifi service problem.

Errr, I do do this for a job. That has never happened to me btw, though I have had the odd soundcard driver crash. In fact, doing this professionally, it is immensely useful to me to have access to dropbox, gmail and wetransfer directly from my DAW pc.

Thumbs up on the USB wireless adapter! That's the method I have been using for years. It just better serves as a reminder that you are online and to get off as soon as you are done! I also use Microsoft Security Essentials. I have used McAfee, Kaspersky, and Norton. With those I still got viruses and spent hours cleaning and purging. Since I started using MSE I have never gotten anything that even resembles a virus. And it is absolutely FREE!

You may like to type "dropbox chinese hackers" into your favorite search engine when you have a moment.

You are unlikely to even be aware you have malware on a modern PC.

Sorry but this is exactly the kind dumb link clicking and browsing you simply shouldn't do. That doesn't mean I'm not going to use internet at all.

I realize everybody has to make his own decision in this, but yes, I do this for a living (next to gigging) and the time (and thus money) it saves me to use these things on a daily basis is huge. The studios around me all have and use internet too, though I think by now everyone but me is on Mac where it is somewhat less of an issue.

An additional reason I do not use Dropbox is the terms and conditions.

If you are transferring creative material over dropbox, have a look at the terms of use.

They may have changed since I was considering using the dropbox service, but what I read then made me balk.
