  • Why do I have to use MME drivers?

Haven't been here for a long while so please excuse if this question is passé.  I'm using Sonar X1; Windows 7; and Roland Dup Capture.  It won't let me use WDM drivers, only MME.  Why is this?

thanks,

You should have an option for ASIO which is probably your best driver (latency-wise). Do you see that in the list of drivers?

Hi Mesh,

Yes ASIO is an option.  I engaged it and it seems to work just fine.  If I originally recorded something using the MME driver can I later use the ASIO driver to play it back and visa-versa?

Driver mode doesn't effect audio, so you it doesn't matter what you used in the past.

Also, make sure you have the latest drivers for your Roland installed on your PC, if you do not already. You should also try WDM in conjunction with ASIO driver mode to see what works better for you.

Yes.  The choice of playback driver may not even matter.  Using ASIO is often preferred for recording because it can reduce latency if you are monitoring as you play.  Also, there are no standard answers as to which driver, ASIO or WDM, always works better; it is dependent on the quality of the drivers written for a particular piece of hardware.  My TASCAM FW-1884, for example, comes with recommendations to use the WDM driver.

+1 to what CJ said, if your not seeing WMD I suspect a driver update or an outdated device
like the UA-11. but im not totally sure about that (outdated or not) I was pretty sure the dou has been around for awhile even though they're making newer ones.

You can even use the WASapi drivers ;)  Microsofts answer to ASIO

I have never had any good results with any drivers other than ASIO.

I use ASIO as well, however I have had equally good results with WASAPI...it is just not quite as stable
