  • We need Undo button back! (p.3)

Wireless keyboards are extra problem when using KVM switch (a switch between several computers to share the same keyboard/mouse/monitor). But this all is aside the point. So far I did not hear any reasonable explanation from Cakewalk that would make me understand importance of NOT having Undo button. If they said, "Because we use certain programing code, it interferes with other function and we were forced to give up Undo for the sake of something else and the entire program would fall apart if we implement Undo". then I would say, "Oh, ok, I understand. I will learn to live without it. But so far- it is frustrating because it feels- they took it out because they thought- nobody needs it. I want to know simple question: are there some technical programing reasons that require abandon Undo functionality or is it just bunch of guys who used to keyboard commands, decided, "Lets get rid of it- nobody will miss it". I appreciate all the suggestions posted, but I really do not see myself holding keyboard on my laps while recording. I like to be able to get up any time. My chair is too close- there is no room, it is not comfortable- I refuse to drag typing keyboard everywhere I go. It should be a matter of creating a simple link to the button. The function is already there- it is under Edit. Just link it to the interface- this should not be such a big deal. Thank you.

Lance Riley [Cakewalk]If your keyboard sends midi you can probably set it up as a control surface. Using a couple of the buttons on the keyboard you could assign them as Undo and Redo.
Yeah. Or even (if the keyboard hasn't got any buttons and/or knobs) it's easy to setup MIDI shortcuts for the actual piano keys on the keyboard. vladasyn:You'll find this function in the keyboard shortcut window. Just change "type of keys" at the top left to MIDI (and make sure Enabled is ticked)After this it's just for you to start connecting keys to commands. To execute the commands you need to hold down what's called the Midi 'shift' key. This is to prevent you from executing commands when you're actually trying to play something. You set the shift key up to the right in that same window. Select a note you seldom play (far up or down the keyboard) to avoid executing commands when playing chords. By doing this you can control everything with the piano keys and you won't even have to reach the mouse.

I appreciate pointing it out for me, also I am assuming- making a button for everybody to be comfortable right on the interface as it used to be would be more beneficial. If you can visualize a keyboard player set up- I have many keyboards. They located in both sides of my desk. I am not sure if setting it on one keyboard would mean- it would work from other keyboards. If I had to go that far- I would use Edit and 3 steps, as I am using now. The point is- it used to be on the screen, 1 click operation. Is there any reason it had to be taken away, and can it be put back?

If you use MIDI shortcuts it'll work from all keyboards sending MIDI to Sonar

What do you mean you'd use "Edit and 3 steps" ..

I really don't understand why it's such a big problem not having an undo-icon. You say you have keyboards located on both sides of your desk. Why not use them to control Sonar then? You can undo your recording just by holding C0 and pressing C#0 for example.

If you learn how to setup MIDI shortcuts I'm sure you'll find that very handy and much better than using the mouse to click a small icon

customizable buttons would be great!
If I am in recording room I have a VNC connection from an IPAD to the PC.
I can touch the record button but there is no Ctrl-Z  button

I bought a Microsoft suface for that exact purpose (remote desktop to my main PC) and having the snap in keyboard, so I can have all the controls.  With an iPad you could easily get one of those Logitech blutooth keyboard holders.  There's similar things for Android as well.

Submit a feature request to add undo to the right-click menu. That should be very easy to implement.

I've used the ctrl-z for so long I don't even remember the button.

But considering that everything is becoming more geared to touch screen navigation, it seems like all the buttons we've lost and forgotton should be re-implemented. It's time to come full circle on this.
Otherwise, we're headed to one of those multi-button mouse/jog controllers.

If I had time to use X3 I am sure I would wear out the undo button (if I had one).

I will likely never choose touch by choice, regardless of its presence.
