What you really want is BrainSpawn Forte, although that's definitely not as cheap as trying to force Sonar into submission ;)

All I would need is Sonar if there was a way to hit one controller and it allowed the tracks I wanted to be heard to be heard while making the others silent and I could just go from one track to the next if in doing so it automatically went into exclusive solo mode. Maybe a macro of some sort could be created somehwow. Is there a way to click a button or footswitch and make 2 thinks happen at the same time? 
 
 

Here's a different idea... Set markers with automation "states" and use Next/Previous Marker in the ACT Control Surface to move around them:
