That's clever, I never did it that way before. Does it do that with recorded patterns or with live playing or both? Do the notes map back into Maschine to be played? Doesn't that create a loop then?

Has nothing to do with live play or patterns.. its simply linking a group that is playing internally within maschine to a different group that plays externally.. so live paly/patterns doesn't matter.

to Sonar its simply another midi track and midi source.. There is no need for the track to have an output while you are recording. Once all recorded you have a variety of options what to do.. disable the midi input to this track and enable mid output to maschine. or just transfer the data to the regular maschine midi input track.

Right, so do the recorded notes auomatically map back to Maschine properly? Or do you map the pads to notes?

What I've done so far was map pads to notes and use a stripped down version of the factory GM drums template. I created a track template in Sonar with Maschine and 8midi tracks and set them up to play the 8 groups in Maschine. It works really well now for linear recording but it took some setting up, I never even considered doing it your way.

don't wish to be captain obvious here, but they will map exactly where you put them...:) lol

if you map pads to notes on the input to maschine then it would make sense to map pads to same notes on the same channel on the midi out options.. IF you want to play back into Maschine, but you can map whatever you like wherever you like.. eg. you may want midi in on ch 1 only with pads to notes following the maschine map and out on ch 10 and remap the pads to GM std., or you may want every pad out on same note but different channel.. its all up to you..
was simply saying how you can get midi out of Maschine..what you do with it is up to you :)

I just remember having problems in the past e.g. Exporting midi loops out of Maschine wouldn't play back the correct samples back into Maschine until telling the group to map pads to notes etc.
I'll try out your way tomorrow, thanks for the idea!
