I'm interested to know whether the New Cakewalk TapeSim is modeled after a tracking tape machine (like the Studer A800), or a master buss tape machine (like the Ampex ATR-102.)

I was surprised a bit by the lack of a 30 IPS option on the new Cakewalk TapeSim, so I'm thinking this is meant more for audible affect than fidelity. It does seem to compare more with features to the Kramer Master Tape plugin (with only 7.5 IPS and 15 IPS available) vs some others out there like the Slate VTM (only 15 IPS and 30 IPS available) or UAD Studer (7.5 IPS, 15 IPS, or 30 IPS available.)

Anyone from Cakewalk want to confirm the thinking behind the design? That always helps when deciding how to use it.

Peace,

I was playing around with it today. Is the noise knob supposed to be very subtle? My hearing may just be getting very bad but I can't hear any difference with noise (tape hiss) while turning the knob. Maybe that is a good thing lol

I can tell you the Kramer Master Tape is very audible.  I'm very impressed with it.  So far it is looking like I would be fine downgrading from PRODUCER X2 to STUDIO X3.  I'm loaded with Toontack drums, I have Kramer M Tape, don't need a Fender Rhoads keyboard.  The only thing I would like to have is the Zoom EQ but I can live without it.
