Hi,
 Is there any use to buying the box copy of X3? I am wondering how it works with the X3a and X3b updates?
 
 How much downloading do you save if you buy a boxed copy? How much do you end up down loading anyway?
 
 With regards to archiving the installation files, I'll need to make copies of the X3a and X3b updates so it occurs to me that there may or may not be an advantage to owning a boxed copy as a method of having an archived installer.

I always buy the box copy and am waiting on it before I do my upgrade.

whenever they pressed it = whatever version you get...
 
so yep there will be downloads regardless, maybe not today.. maybe not tomorrow.. but sometime in the future in a distant galaxy....
 

The Box copy is X3 the download version is X3a. It really does not matter because once you install your version you will want to download and update to X3b.

X3b (and X3c etc.) will typically only be the core product update. Hardly ever do you see an update to the one shots and loops etc. 
 
X3a installer is ~8GB (not counting one shots and loops)
X3b is ~445MB

In the box you get a nice slim grey user manual, and a folding card quick start guide. I found the X2 QuickStart quite helpful, but perhaps not worth the cost of having the box shipped.
 
The minimal download is about 4.5 GB.
 
The DVD disc in the box is virgin X3, whereas the download is X3a. In either case, you will need to download the 400 MB X3b patch and apply it to either version you installed.
