Keni, I'm not sure what's going on in your life that is giving you such a sense of hopelessness but don't let it completely consume you. Even if you have to close up shop for a while or even end up with just yourself and an acoustic guitar you can rebuild. I have been on a recovery path of coming on five years now where I had to let go of EVERYTHING but I kept an ember of hope burning and although I am a long way off from being where I need to be the path is much clearer than it has ever been. Sometimes being seemingly reduced to being and having nothing can not only be humbling but focusing. After a few extremely painful and frustrating years I have righted the ship and can see the shore in the distance.

I hope you aren't experiencing health issues but even then keep hope. We are musicians and as long as our minds work and our hearts are beating we can create. Especially with all we can achieve with modern tech. I had a buddy with brain damage that destroyed his body so he couldn't play anymore and he just started doing MIDI composition.

Point is don't let an annoying piece of software defeat you. Hope things look up in Keniland. Cheers.

They probably learned something from Cubase

X1 went to 'd'. So it won't surprise me if X3 develops as far or even deeper. I believe if Cake makes enough money in the first 6 months or so of X3, they May give an X3 'd' or 'e' (June) with some goodies before releasing a blast of an X4 around late November-ish in '14.
So, stimulate Cake's finances and the economy; If you can.......
p.s. The ball is now in Cubase court to adopt ARA, or will they remain elitist about being DAW leader.

Hey don't diss Cubase, they did develop VST, where would we all be without that?

Wishin' you the best Keni...

Things for me are slowing down and sure feels like spending money on updates are painful.  They use to be a no-brainer, easy money choice.  My clients are in worse shape than I.  I hate having to budget things especially when for so many years I did not need to.  It's like a punch in the gut.

Anyway, feeling your pain.  I updated this morning despite my better judgement.

Good luck,  push on, know that you are not alone.

No, don't care about plug-in format. The answer just seemed obvious.

All the best Keni, it seems people on the Sonar forums have more problems than most (or maybe we're just more eager to share!) but you just gotta think positive no matter what...many of us have been through similar slumps and I know what it's like when you can't seem to focus on the light at the end of the tunnel...a few years ago I had a bout of cancer and wasn't insured and it cost me everything I'd worked years to save...and just when I thought it couldn't get any worse then I lost most of my business after the 2008 financial crisis. It seemed like everything I'd worked so hard for was in the toilet and I had trouble focusing on the positives for a good long time after that, in fact it sounds like you are coping way better than I was! But I think along the way I learned a thing or two about life and expectation and now I feel better equipped to take the rough with the smooth..anyway good luck with whatever is going on in your life and I hope things work out for you soon!

I don't know what the problem is.  Can anyone make a software program like this on their own for a couple of hundred dollars?  (Rounded off upgrade cost.)  Of course not.  So a company has to do it.  Now is that company making tons of money at our expense?  I really doubt it.  It is probably still a niche market.  It is not like a toaster or a TV.  Not everyone buys this DAW.  So they have to raise money to improve their products and release new versions.  I don't know any of the Cakewalk people, but I doubt they are living in multi-million dollar homes, have swiss bank accounts, and drive Rolls Royces.    So they can do some updates for free and every once in a while they need to raise money to pay their people.  Do we want their people to not be paid and we can just take advantage of their work?
We throw away much more money each year on gasoline than we do on these DAW software programs.  If the money is an issue, bicycle, walk more or figure something else out.  But let's pay these decent people who are trying really hard to make these products and do a better job than most to have a forum and respond to concerns.  I really did not like the color schemes in X1 and X2 - so they listened and improved the choices.  Did they resolve everyone's concerns yet?  I doubt it.  But it sure looks like they are trying.
Ok - end of rant.

Thanks Beepster...

What's going on? I'm old, poor, and tired and live in a twilight zone of California where I can't get work because there is no work... Try to invent something? I've been here for 13 years now and I've tried many things with no luck...

So poor health (no details for here) and no work, there's little hope.

I do try to carry on... This has been in motion for 13 years mind you... I've released 5 albums while here even tho I had no money... The 6th (my 8th album) is already finished but I can't afford the copyright (yet?) to release it... Release date is currently set for 11/23/13... We'll see if I manage to make it happen...

I do continue to make music and will until they pry the mouse from my dead hand! ;-)

Thanks for the support... I'm sorry to be displaying these things here. Not appropriate... I'm just so bewildered and distraught... I'll be 62 years old in November and I still can't make a living! I guess I'll have to be a success after I'm dead!? ;-) I'm still owed my 15 minutes of fame! ;-)
