Hello!

I've seen on the Molten Music Technology youtube channel that the guy was connecting an audio interface, a midi controller and a thumb drive to use with his daw on a SURFACE PRO4. That kind of surprised me, as I am used to being told to avoid hubs or thumb drives for DAW use.

Are the newer technologies and faster transfer rates making hubs usable for DAW-related devices?

Thanks

I have been using a combination network port + USB hub connected to a USB 3 port on my laptop to connect internet, keyboard and mouse and my audio interface.  it has not given me any problems this way.

It seems to be an "iffy" way to go.  For some it works OK, others have reported problems (on other forums).  Probably depends on how loaded the USB bus is.

When I was troubleshooting, what turned out to be a USB 3.0 compatibility problem with my MOTU 896Mk3 Hybrid, I tried external hubs (both a USB 2.0 and 3.0) and there wasn't any difference compared to connecting the unit direct.  Thus if I would have got the MOTU to work with a PC USB 3.0 port I would have left it with the hub.  Unfortunately the MOTU didn't work with the PC USB 3.0 port regardless of what type of external hub was used.
